Been a really good GM except failing miserably in FA. I mean just failing terribly.

    Nope.

Harang was a scrapheap signing who's been out best pitcher. Santana has the best HR neutral peripherals of anyone on this team. Floyd has a very good ERA and very good xFIP.

If you look at xFIP our pitchers rank Santana, Floyd, Minor, Julio Harang with Harang being at a 3.84 which isn't even close to bad.

What would you call those guys?

Glavine Was working nicely until elbow surgery. Whole year sucked. RIP Skip, Pete retired, Huddy TJ, Glavine surgery, Smoltz shoulder surgery.
    Gotay Depth move for bench.
Ross Great signing we can all agree on.
Moylan I don't know if this was a signing, he's been with us since 2006. Maybe a re-sign?
Garret Anderson Mid market team with no minor league depth in OF, desperation signing I suppose.
Lowe A year in which all of our starters went down. He was a durable innings eater that we needed.
    Kawakami Meh.
    O'Flaherty Amazing pick up.
Saito Totally forgot about this. He was actually pretty good until the hamstring.
Wagner Great signing. NLDS 2010 might've been different had he not strained the oblique.
Glaus Milked whatever was left from him the first half of 2010.
Hinske Can all agree this was a great signing.
    Sherrill Simple lefty bullpen addition.
    Durbin Ugh.
Livan Wasn't actually that bad for us.
    Laird LEADERSHIP
BJ Unfortunate he's not even performing to half of his career numbers. ATL, where premium FA's go to die.
Reed Johnson We acquired via trade, then re-signed.
Sheets We milked whatever was left like Glaus.
Pena Worked out decently so far for what it is.
    Overbay Nope.
    Santana A- so far
Floyd Understand why we did it.
    Harang Nuff Said.

Also they weren't free agent signings but I think we can all agree:

    Kimbrel extension.
    Simba extension.
    Freeman extension.
    Teheran extension.

All for under market value for the duration of their deals deserves the ole golf clap.

He did re-sign Chipper to his final contract, he did re-sign Huddy to an extension after his TJ surgery. He did sign Gattis. Didn't he also sign Brooks Conrad?

I think Wren has done a good job overall. If you sign 20 guys and half of them turn out to help you then you have done a pretty good job. His extensions this off season give him the ultimate pass in my book. I would argue the Bj signing was his worst but it made sense at the time. After watching him day after day I understand what Chapel Hill Matt was saying. I don't care if a guy slumps or even makes an error every now and then. I just can't stand someone that doesn't hustle. Now Fredi is a whole different story.

You cannot blame Wren when a guy comes here and cannot perform. That is squarely on the player.

Most of those moves are good to great in my book. Great GM. About the only guy I'd look to replace them with is anyone in the STL front office. Those guys draft, develop, and play the FA game to a T.

On the bolded list above... Durbin was actually very good for us and then left for the Phillies at seasons end. He even knew when not to resign some players I guess?

And Lowe was just about the last guy left to help us that offseason. I seem to remember him being one of the later signings, so at the point they felt the need to get another arm, they went out and got best available. Nothing wrong with that, except length of contract IMO.

Easy to say, but give us something to compare it to. Are there teams who have not bitten the big one on a FA? I kind of doubt it. There are enough success stories in there for me to think the Braves have far from the worst track record in the FA market. You might disagree, but again -- give me something to compare Wren's to.

he hamstrung the club on those QUESTIONABLE signings.

saddle with trades for the likes of strUggla.

Liberty is not going to eat those contracts. They already did it with bLowe and the Samarai.

We have two black holes on our roster we cannot do anything about.

Once again, how is that not the players fault to play at least around par with their norms? What is he supposed to do see the frickin future?

Both those moves were needed at the time and he addressed em best he could. The players have to produce.

Uggla and BJ are outliers. Neither have performed anywhere close to their career norms and both came here while in prime years. Both fell off drastically. When acquired they both were premium for their positions.

We had no business signing BJ...I don't care what stat, analyst, or arm chair fan manager says..We had no business signing him.
