    ISIS

Surprised not to see a thread on the situation in Iraq, which appears to be escalating rather quickly. ISIS has taken control of the second largest city in the country (Mosul) and continues to make surprising inroads against the American trained (to the tune of $25 billion) Iraqi Army. The United States is evacuating non-essential embassy personnel from Baghdad ... yes, that's our Embassy in the Green Zone (haven't heard that phrase in a while, have you?)

Now, we are supposedly sharing intelligence with Iran (first time since 9/11)?

And then there's this (absolutely, positively, terrifying):

Yet more ammo for the neoconservatives.

I think it's ammo for both sides. The neoconservatives who felt we should have basically taken over the area and the non-interventionists who would have stayed out completely. I heard Kenneth Pollack on NPR today. He supported the invasion, but felt is wasn't sufficient to meet the goal of what a "good" version of Iraq should be. Count me among those who thought the war would be easy but the peace would be difficult and if we weren't willing to stay, we shouldn't have gone in.

Iraq really needs a cohesive, stable central government and a strong leader who knows how to keep the various sectarian interests at bay. A real strongman, maybe.

Chalk this up to the non-interventionists. Same thing is going to happen in Afghanistan.

One of The biggest foreign policy mistakes of Obamas presidency was not backing the Iranians during Thier mini-revolt a few years back. If he had done that; Putin would have less power,Assad would had been gone long ago, Hezbollah would have less power. The Middle East would be a lot safer.

Egypt for all it's faults is the only country smart enough to realize that you kill all the terrorists because if you don't soon they'll have big enough numbers that you're stuck with them like Pakistan is.

There's No reason not to keep a force in Iraq to handle problems like ISIS. Just use your intelligence on where ISIS is and bomb them all day.

I'm guessing the final result will be the division into three separate countries that has been talked since 2007 or 2008.

Let's remember, 2018 will be the centennial of the cynical British plan that tried to make nation-states out of thin air after WWI.

Really, I can't stop laughing at the first line of this.

The Middle East would be a lot safer.

It's so easy to make the Middle East peaceful, Obama is just a MORON.
    This never happened under "interventionists."
On a serious note, why not talk about the real problem there and how it's being going for, oh I dunno, FOREVER. No, let's instantly make it someone's fault. It's definitely Obama's fault. With a real leader the war over religion would end,

    Snore. Kick rocks.
