MINORS FINAL 6/30: Edgerton red-hot; TWO STEALS OF HOME MONDAY

Tip of the hat to Jordan Edgerton

The nuts and bolts are this: Jordan Edgerton is a 6-1, 190 third baseman out of Mt. Holly, NC, by way of one of the "other" Carolina schools, UNC-Pembroke. The school is a historically an American Indian school of higher learning, and their nickname, PC folks, is the Braves -- and has been since 1946. A Division II school, it is in large part backed by the Lumbee tribe and Plays in the Peach Belt Conference.

Edgerton is a 3-year starter and 2-time DII All-American. He was consistent; he hit .352 as a senior and for his career, but flirted with .400 as a sophomore. He has power, with 13 homers his final season. The Atlanta Braves drafted him in the ninth round and was a quick signee. He hit the ground running.

In his 10-game pro career thus far, he has hit .432 for Danville, driving in 14 runs in those 10 starts. He has a total already of 16 hits, including four doubles, a triple and home run. He's drawn six walks with just TWO strikeouts. Not only has he had five multi-hit games, he's had four 3-hit games. He's also scored eight runs. (And, for what it's worth, a 1.154 OPS). UPDATE: He picked up where he left off Monday night (HR, 3 RBIs, etc.)

Several picks have had good starts, but this kids has blown me away. He doesn't turn 21 until August.
