The Chosen One (07-13-2014)
I know they are millionaires but it's still sad to watch someone completely fail at something they used to be good at while millions of people watch. I genuinely hope he turns it around somewhere because he always seemed like a pretty nice guy when it came to the fans and his teammates.
All you need is Hart and Cox.

One thing you can say about Uggla: he always gave it his all. And contrary to popular belief, he was still a good player before the second half of last year.

I hate his decline was so sudden, I hated watching him kill us with the fish. Was glad we acquired him and hated its ending so badly.
Ivermectin Man
Hope there is a lesson learned about long-term deals to 30something players.

Uggla I'm sure is a great guy, but his Lairdership is lacking. If he could just give some more of that Brian Jordan rah rah.
Forever Fredi
Well at least he was not as bad as Mondesi.
Of course this is right, but if you look at the data looking backward, there was absolutely no sign of this coming. He had five years of metronomic consistency as a power bat.
It was a good gamble, I still think. Didn't work out. You guys who said don't do it were absolutely right.
I wonder if anybody's ever bothered to put a microphone in front of Jeff Loria for an "I told you so?" Jeff would probably like that. I also wonder if he's ever thanked Beinfest for building him yet another budding powerhouse.

Uggla struggled big time and you never would have knew it by just watching him. His body language really never wavered and he always gave 100 percent no matter what. Nobody can argue this. I don't really feel bad for him per se. Yes it stinks that he can't play baseball at this level anymore. Well currently he can't. But the end of day him and his family are taken care of financially for the foreseeable future and that's all anyone actually cares about.
So hats off to Uggla. I still remember his epic hitting streak like it was yesterday.
Per Sportscenter App. Uggla is suspended for today's game!
Lol what the frock.
I won't partake in ripping out his gizzards bc he's been roughed up enough. It's hard on any man to face reality that he can't do what he's loved to do for the better part of his life anymore. I've had the pleasure of meeting Dan on a couple of occasions and he was an absolute stand up guy, prob would have banged my wife, but still carries himself very well. Much luck to him in wherever he goes.
He was over 30 and unathletic. Prime candidate for a downturn. I'm surprised he lost it all so suddenly, but he never had an OPS over .800 in Atlanta and I don't care where he ranked among second basemen in the league. He played bat, pure and simple, and he lost his ability to play bat. I liked him on a one-year deal, but hated the extension. Said it then and, while I don't feel somehow superior that my impression was correct, I did see this coming. Just not so suddenly.
I've never met Dan Uggla, but from all I have seen and heard he is a nice and decent man. He's given all he has, but it's not enough. It's time to move on. I wish him all the best, except when playing against the Braves. If the reports are true and he will be DFA'ed, I hope he signs elsewhere and goes on to a happy ending to his career, whenever that may be.
