MINORS FINAL 7/21: Diaz Pick to Click; bad night for Kimbrel family

Here's a moderately bold prediction: 2014 5th round pick Chris Diaz, LHP out of The U (Miami), will be the first member of this draft class to appear in the big leagues.
Not that far out on a limb -- he's filled out (6-0, weighs 195 now, was announced as 180 at the draft), is already 21, and is mowing them down.
Here are his first pro appearances (all with Rome):

    DATE G GS W/L IP H R ER BB K
    6/27 1 1 0-0 1.2 1 1 1 3 4
    7/3 1 1 0-0 3.1 0 0 0 3 4
    7/8 1 0 0-0 4 1 2 2 3 3 (only hit was HR)
    7/13 1 1 0-0 4 3 0 0 1 3
    7/19 1 1 0-0 4 2 1 1 0 3
    TOTALS 5 4 0-0 17 7 4 4 10 17 2.12

Opponents are hitting a big, fat .125 against him. He needs to move up a notch soon, as soon as he's stretched out enough to start getting a chance to win some of these starts. He has to go five innings, of course, but pitch counts have grabbed hit (all the walks and strikeouts).
He's not needed soon, of course, but he could easily be ready by mid-2015 if early indicators are legit. Remember -- he's a lefty!

I liked the Diaz pick and he's someone that will probably move up the ladder fairly fast. Don't know about his ceiling, but my guess is he could be a solid middle-to-back of the rotation guy. We were wondering about the pitching staff in Lynchburg for next season and my guess is that is where Diaz will start unless he totally blows up this season and starts in AA.

Diaz was easily our most polished pick in the draft. But he might get some competition from #22 pick Sean Godfrey for fastest to the majors.

GCL Braves doing better lately. Ray Patrick Didder will be getting all the ABs from the SS position with the promotion of Albies and I'm curious to see how he'll do. Did alright in the DSL a year ago.

Lucas Sims with his third straight strong start. The K's are coming back. 21 K's and 5 BB's in those three starts.

Last two nights, to be honest. Very encouraging.

Getting real giddy over Peraza. Super young for the league and started out incredibly well.

You don't see a line like Grosser's very often for seven innings of work (O BB, O K), but one can't argue with the results.

Rome finds yet another way to blow a huge lead (looks like fielding problems did them in last evening).
