It sounds great to trade Upton but the problem is that nobody will take him. You will hvae to package him with Gattis just for the team to take UPton without the Braves absorbing the salary. Is that something the Braves want to do? Its possible.

As well as a bad contract to absorb. Something certainly has to be done to get rid of BJ so that Heyward and/or Justin can be retained. I'm just not sure how thats going to be done without giving up a way too valueable piece or absorbin another horrible contract.

If trading Minor with BJ, it better free up some money to bring in a starting pitcher or two. Better not be banking on Medlin/Beach returning.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see the rationale behind trading Gattis this offseason unless he brings back a young stud starting pitcher with 3-4 years of control remaining, or a stud OFer to replace Justin or Heyward. A team that can't hit should not be trading away the most powerful bat on the roster that is making league minimum, even if he can't play more than 120 games.
And stop with the CB waiting in the wings crap. He was awful offensively and defensively while he was up. He needs at least one more year in AAA before he is even an option at the MLB level.
This. Team. Can't. Hit.
Evan Gattis can, so keep him.

In agreement if we trade Gattis, I want a for real pitcher or a for real hitter that can play center or play right well enough to allow Jason to shift over.

Trading BJ isn't that hard, it's just a matter of how much the braves are willing to eat. If they offered to eat all but 1 mill a year someone would bite.
Gattis I think they are right, he won't hold up physically to a full season at catcher. It's going to be hard to improve the offense replacing Gattis with Bethancourt. Whatever we gain in center will probably be lost here.

It would of been amazing to get Venters back... in his three season's with us, he complied a total ERA of 2.23 with a WHIP of 1.24. The man was amazing.
I miss the days of EOF, Venters and Kimbrel. So dominant.
We're lucky to have Walden and Kimbrel. We've got to make sure we retain Walden as well.
I just hope Gattis' replacement isn't CB. If it is then you fully understand the philosophy of this organization and it's not a good one. We have enough free swinging low OBP guys. Why add another? Of course if we replaced CJ then you can take the hit at catcher. But good lord a lineup with Simmons, CJ, CB, Gosselin(who Fredi clearly likes better)and potentially BJ if we can't move him is just pathetic.
All you need is Hart and Cox.
tomahawkchop10 (08-26-2014)
Yeah, the lineup simply can't have half the members sporting a .300 OBP or worse.
Is it really a mystery why this offense struggles so mightily?
As for the CB question, the Braves moved Bello from the GCL to Lynchburg after just 28 at-bats. He's 29 years old, so the Braves will want him at the ready ASAP.
Great news to hear all the way around. Gattis is not a big league defensive player regardless of position. Time for him to be what he is, a DH.
