GDT 8/30/14 Braves vs Marlins Harang vs Cosart

In a hot and humid night in Atlanta with a chance of thundershowers throughout the night. With the incomparable Aaron Harang taking the hill

There's no doubting the gravity of this game as Harang gets on the mound. No denying the heaviness we will have in our hearts if we lose. Can't get around the fact that we need to win.

Lineup is terrible as usual but what are we gonna do? Lets hope the stars show up

    RF - Jason
    SS - Simmons
    1B - Freeman
    LF - Justin
    C - Gattis
    3B - BABIP
    2B - TLS
    CF - Not Bonifacio
    P - Harang.

Why is BJ being played? Good to see Fredi doesn't care about winning at all. You can't tell me he cares until BJ is completely benched. Period!

I guess Fredi got tired of watching Bonifacio help us win. Way to bench him for a bum. Par for the course.

Cards already lost game 1. Brewers/giants playing each other. Would be really nice if we can get home field for play in game. God help the umpires of the screw us at home again .

The Giants are playing better and outside of the Brewers and maybe one other series have a real cakewalk of a schedule. So catching and passing the Cardinals may be the only way we sneak into the playoffs at this point. I wouldn't mind beating them out for a playoff spot instead of the Giants. But if we do they probably beat us in the Wild Card (possibly behind Tim Hudson) and Fredi keeps his job since we made the playoffs.

PS: I see Molina is back for the Cardinals, so once he shakes off the rust they'll be a lot better again. So we need to catch them and pass them soon before that happens.

And the real Mike Minor just stood up. That's a huge boost.

Minor is no stranger to finishing the season strong after a poor first half. Hopefully he keeps it up with the Smoltz like dominate second half the rest of the way too. If he does I'd probably want him to start the Wild Card game if we get in and face the Giants. He has pitched well vs them over his career and he also won his only playoff game last year too.

The race is going to be so close that I doubt either side gets to choose their starter. My crystal ball tells me it will be Harang vs Hudson.

I agree with our announcers for a change, I wouldn't have traded Cosart if I were Houston. I like him and expect him to continue to get better.

That said, I hope he has a bad night tonight. :)

Freeman can't do anything right vs Miami it seems. He may hit the ball hard but if so right at someone for an easy DP.

Whew, I thought that was gone too. Thankfully more of a line drive shot by Ozuna there. That was another terrible pitch though. Harang has only made two bad pitches by my count so far, but both were hammered.

I knew CJ would strikeout after he owned Justin and Gattis so easy. Though he got Justin and Gattis with curveballs, almost all fastballs to CJ and he still struck out.

Doesn't CJ have like the worst strikeout-to-walk ratio of any starter in MLB? I think I read that somewhere recently. If up to me Boni would be starting in centerfield and Gosselin at third right now.

Yes, CJ has the worst walk to strikeout ratio in the majors. Coming into today he has 0.13 walks per strikeout. Best on our team is Heyward who has 0.68 walks per strikeout.

I agree Gosselin should start over CJ, except against lefties.

Agreed, I have said repeatedly in the past that we had it right last year when CJ started as a platoon player. He is someone you platoon with a player that mashes righties as he hits lefties just fine.

That bad two out walk has already proved costly, two runs early with the way Cosart is pitching is not good.

BJ Upton got called out by the announcers for not charging that ball, he took his time getting to it allowing the runner to go to third. They noted that Boni charges that ball and no way the runner takes third had BJ done so.

Looked like Jason was talking to BJ about something too.
