Andrelton Simmons Batting 2nd tonight (Unofficial GDT 9/2/'14 vs. Phillies)

This is not meant to be a game thread. But make it one as you wish. I just wanted to point out that our manager is batting Simmons second once again.

Simmons has a .291 OBP, and a .632 OPS. He is, 23% worse than the average NL hitter.

For most of the year, he hits 8th. but sometimes, our manager decides to move our 8hitter to the 2 spot.

    Please - fire this idiot!

He's batting .262 and has a .313 OBP in the 2 spot this year... by far his most successful spot in the lineup. Not saying it's a a great move... but maybe one of the only places where ANdrelton feels comfortable.

We took off last year with Jason/Justin/Freddie in the top three. Don't know why that is not being tried, but it couldn't be any worse.

If Simmons EVER decides to actually cut his swing down and stop looking like an idiot half the time, I think he's very much an ideal No. 2 hitter. But I've seen no indication he's going to do that anytime soon. If he's going to keep popping very easy pitches up, he should flash his defensive skills and run and go catch them.

We had McCann to drive them in, CJ having a career year, and Simmons actually hitting homeruns as well. We also had a decent first half from Dan Uggla to hit homers.

I don't mind Justin hitting cleanup tbh, if Heyward and Freeman get on, I have peace of mind that Justin is going to drive both of them in with a homer or long double.

This works when it DOES NOT hurt the team. That's not the case here.

I do, too. But it becomes a matter of what we have to bat second. I don't think you can give Simmons the second most ABs at this point. Justin in the second spot would at least be worth trying against lefties, given how successful CJ has been against them this year.

Not by far. That's his best OBP spot. 7th is his best OPS spot (in more at-bats).

I'm more concerned with BJ being in the starting lineup again.

Disappointed Heyward didn't stretch that to an inside the park homer.

CJ needs to get some hits against this RHP or Gosselin may get those ABs.

Putting an auto out in the 2 hole doesn't help... But then our 5,6 hitters swing as if their playing golf

Why are they so damn persistent on running CJ out every ****ing game when he can't hit right handers?

What are you talking about? His .584 OPS is solid!

    Apparently safe to fire FG.

Yankees are being no-hit through 4. Expect Joe Girardi looking for a job around 11 tonight.
