Our worst hitter is batting 1 and one of our best is batting 8? WTF?

    Should be

    Jason
    Johnson
    Justin
    Freddie
    MAc
    Gattis
    Uggla
    Simmons

Horrible lineup Fredi (now watch us score 20 runs)

If Simmons is forced to hit leadoff enough, eventually he will just learn to be a good hitter.

It's just like how if you beat someone with a protractor enough times, they'll become awesome at geometry.

Just out of curiosity, how many people would be on board with Uggla as the lead off man instead of Simmons? I know neither is an ideal candidate, but how long can we keep trotting out someone with a .280 OBP at the top of the lineup? Plus, even though he's only hitting .195, Uggla has an OBP of .320 or so. He also wouldn't be counted on in RBI situations as much since he always fails at those, and also situational hitting situations since he can't seem to ever cut down on his swing.

Fine with that. Any non-pitcher in the starting lineup is a better option.

Id go with something crazy like this..

    Uggla
    Johnson
    Upton
    Freeman
    McCann
    Gattis
    Heyward
    Simmons

It wont ever happen, but Uggla walks alot, CJ leads our team in average, and Heyward drops down in a spot where he will get PLENTY of RBI chances like Uggla fails at now. Shoot. Why not? We aint scoring a lot of runs anyway.

Uggla wouldn't be ideal, but literally ANYONE on the roster is a better option than Simmons. I imagine if Uggla could get his BA up into the .230s he might very well find himself in the leadoff role. As it currently stands, just sticking Simmons at 8 and moving everyone up one spot would be just fine.

Maybe now that Heyward is a "speedy CFer" Fredi might consider batting him leadoff?

have to admit Simmons had some good AB's last night, even hit a few balls to the right side.

It's such a dead horse subject though, it's not worth it getting bent out of shape. Fredi is stuck in his ways with the lineup and it's not going to change much. If it all.

nobody should have expected Fredi to change the lineup after winning last night, that's his M.O. Might tweak it if its a LHP or a day game after a night game but if no one's hurt Fredi won't change much. Neither would I; look at our bench, its not exactly a wealth of underused talent right now.

Flipping CJ and Simmons might work, but don't you think CJ's success is at least partially due to the lower expectations of the 8 hole?

Most want to put Simmons 8th and just move everyone up a spot (making Chris 7th). If his success is because of batting 8th ('lower expectations'), couldn't you say that Simmons' failure is because of batting 1st ('higher expectations')? Either way, Simmons should be batting 7th, 8th, or 9th.

I know Wood is coming up Thursday to replace Maholm. But why haven't we called anyone up for the bench till then? I mean we just sent Pastornicky down but we could've brought him back by going ahead and placing Maholm on DL. If not him Mejia is on the 40-man roster so we could call him up for a few games (give us an extra right handed pinch hitter with pop).

It may not mean much but every extra player helps should a game go extra innings. I just don't see why we don't do it since Maholm is DL bound anyway. We are basically going with a 24-man roster for a few days.
