    Still in on Beachy. Kinda surprised.

    @DOBrienAJC
    #Braves have stayed in contact with Beachy, have interest.

    It makes sense to re-sign him since he shouldn't cost a lot and isn't a free agent next year. Just so long as we DFA someone like Jaime to make room for him. :)

    The Orioles interest in Gattis has now likely decreased a bit, if they were even still interested. J.P. hits lefties well. Good get on minor league deal.

    That's who I wanted to see us get instead of Pierzynski. Interesting side note. The J in J.P. is for Jonathan. The J in A.J. is for John. A slight but significant difference. Makes sense now.

    Pierzynski is also an anagram for Peniskuirzy.

    Which team has had the better 'rebuild' -- Oakland or Atlanta?

    Beane snags Zobrist and Escobar.

    Ken Rosenthal
    @Ken_Rosenthal
    Full trade, as first reported by @susanslusser: Zobrist and Y. Escobar to #Athletics for Jaso, SS Daniel Robertson and OF Boog Powell.

    Robertson is a nice pick up for the Rays, but I agree for the most part.

    Very good trade by the A's here. I wonder if Beane keeps Zobrist or flips him later in another deal.

    This is a disappointing return for the Rays. I think we ended up getting a slightly better return for Upton than the Rays got for Zobrist, and Zobrist makes $7m LESS than Justin as a rental. The Escobar for Jaso aspect of the deal is about even for me. So that leaves Zobrist for Robertson and Powell. Powell has a value similar to Mallex Smith. Robertson is more valuable than Jace, but I like Jace + Fried + Dustin better than Robertson.

    FWIW, Zobrist has a projected 2015 WAR of 3.9 and Justin's is 2.8.

    Really, I'd think it was a steep price for the A's. They get one year of Zobrist and 3 years of Escobar, but gave up their #1 prospect in Robertson who is excellent, and Powell who has been very good so far in the minors, plus Jaso.

    Makes you think other people are trying to punk the Braves...but I think we're batting .500 for the offseason. Our last three trades seem better than the big ones in my humble opine....

    I wonder if Beane is considering making an offer for Gattis, he would be a fit there even more now. Plus Beane has loaded up on pitching and it seems we want that most in every trade. Plus he has a number of pitchers coming off Tommy John (required in most trades for us) and even one coming off his second Tommy John.

    They signed DH extrodinaire Billy Butler. Don't see how they are a fit.

    Butler can play first a bit too while Gattis can catch, DH some, and also play a little at first. And it's not like the A's carrying three catchers would be anything new.

    It looks like a decent short term move for the A's who desperately need middle IF help. The A's farm system is totally barren now.

    I thought Jaso would have been a good fit for us and was hoping we'd be in on him when the off-season started. I always thought a deal sending La Stella to the A's for Jaso (obviously there would have to be others in the package) could have served both parties well.

    Escobar gets another stamp on his baseball passport.

    There is a rumor Nats were on the verge of trading Desmond for Zobrist and Escobar with the Rays flipping Desmond to the Mets.

    Do not be surprised if Desmond is traded.
