I don't disagree, but any time you start talking about sticking scalpels and other sharp metal things into a player's neck, I get nervous about the long-term.

He could then bring in Murph3 as a special assistant to the GM to arrange a trade for BJ that would've netted us both salary relief and a future ace, and finally in appreciation to all those beloved Braves' fans dropped the price of beer at Turner Field to $2.50...

It's worth noting that Markakis had a pre-existing, pre-existing (x2) neck condition (in 2013). You begin to worry about degenerative issues when it keeps cropping up.

Also, this would be the 5th surgery for Markakis in two years.

The attachment to Heyward is a head scratcher. Would I rather him still be here? Yes, but players come and go. They can't all be CJ who gave us his whole career.
