Oh, I agree: it doesn't seem very sensible.

But "Timing!" is the "Phrasing!" of this Braves offseason.

The Braves have given $1M-$2M to a poor veteran BP arm. Happens almost every offseason. Yawn.

True, but since we have another below-average Johnson to play with, perhaps "Phrasing!" will be the "Phrasing!" of this offseason.

Watch Johnson put up a 3.15 ERA in 50 low leverage innings with a 35/20 K/BB ratio like every other low cost veteran reliever reclamation we've brought in under McDowell.

At the end of the day $1.6M is not going to be missed. He's got a great resume and has succeeded in high pressure situations. I'm surprised he got that kind of money but it's not the end of the world. I think we have all the pieces we really need to battle it out in ST. We have a pretty crowded group for 7 spots.

Watched him a lot last year as he imploded with the A's. Had only 9 clean (no hits or walks) appearances last year out of 54. Terrible. Not a good signing at this amount with no second year reward if he actually rebounds. Makes no sense.

That said, I always liked him before last year and it really seemed like something was wrong with him psychologically with Oakland. If he gets that under control, he could be a nice replacement for Walden (for more money than Walden cost in 2014, but I guess we shouldn't mention that).

Yep. He reminded me of Kolb a lot. He just could not handle the different pressure of being on a team like the A's.

You don't want a team with two Johnsons in on a Proctor.

And before we all start hoping Roger can fix him, try to remember that the A's have arguably the best pitching coach in baseball.

Thats crazy. Seems like he went full retard last year. Guy was getting some good money just a year ago. It is a gamble, but has some upside.

You could see it in his eyes. He looked terrified most of the time.
