    Scotch and other Fine Whiskeys

As I'm sitting down at my computer, I realize we haven't had a thread to straight up booze.

I've got a bottle of Laphroaig 12 year and man it's exceptional. Pretty heavy on the smoke, a touch too sweet for my normal scotch. It's actually a touch better while it's diluted which is not my normal thing with scotch.

Finally broke down and ordered some George Dickel. It's just as good and smooth as Merle Haggard says.

George Dickell is a good cheap alternative to Jack (though Jack isn't that expensive in a liquor store). But my favorite whiskey is easily Jameson. So smooth. I'm fond of bourbon. Jim Beam is always nice. Sweet Lucy is a very good sipping whiskey.

I don't do liquor anymore unless I'm out with friends trying to get drunk, which is rather rare being a newly wed (though I'm certainly not complaining). But liquors I prefer are normally spiced rum or vodka. Not a connoisseur at all, but my favorite is Captain Morgan Private Stock. I never drink Vodka straight but it is the by far the easiest liqour to mix imo. No preference on Vodka really.

did a blind taste test of these a week or so ago that a friend set up at a different friends house:

after trying those good rye whiskeys

friend opened up a Blue Label (and a few other ones) to try some Scotches to compare

still not a fan of Scotch personally

Same. I'm all about that rye, though.

I used to like Jameson when I was younger, then I learned that the world of more powerful flavors is a great one to venture into. Why spend 30 bucks on an OK bottle of Jameson that will last me 1-2 months when I can get an exceptional bottle of Rye, bourbon, scotch or tequila (though not as often the tequila) that makes my night more intersting.
