Seriously, Fredi's Cox ties will protect him. It is more likely we just let his contract expire when it runs out than fire him IMO.

BTW, I noticed this Aaron Kurcz kid has some serious splits. He dominated righties this past year in AA and in the Arizona Fall League. But he also got owned by lefties in both AA and the AFL.

    AA splits:

LEFT/RIGHT SPLIT TOP CLASS AVG OBP SLG PA H 2B 3B HR BB SO GIDP HBP GO FO LO
    vs LHB AA .293 .414 .345 70 17 3 0 0 12 13 1 0 12 7 2
    vs RHB AA .156 .241 .188 108 15 3 0 0 10 40 0 1 12 10 4

    AFL splits:

Entire Season W L ERA G GS CG SHO SV IP H R ER HR BB SO GO/AO AVG
    Reliever 1 0 3.86 10 0 0 0 1 14.0 12 9 6 1 9 15 1.08 .231
    vs Left 9.53 5.2 10 7 6 1 7 5 2.00 .370
    vs Right 0.00 8.1 2 2 0 0 2 10 0.63 .080

Note: If the splits table doesn't show up right I linked the pages above each one.

Sounds like there may be some level of injury concern with Anthony. Saw this in Bowman's replies. Maybe this is related to the 2-3 MPH velocity decrease from Anthony toward the end of last season.

    @mlbbowman
@benph0124 what is strange about dealing a guy who might not have been in the Opening Day bullpen? Plus his elbow has always been a concern

This is a "meh" move to me. This guy can probably come in at some point and be just as effective as Varvaro. And we got cash and a spot on the 40-man. Who knows, he may end up being a guy we trust more later in games than we did Varvaro. Maybe I should say "Fredi" not "we." I liked Varvaro, I thought he had pretty good stuff and was smart.

I can't believe people are upset about this move. This is the definition of a meaningless trade.

Not a huge deal by any means and won't make a big difference. Just doesn't make sense.

    Mistah Kurcz—his elbow dead?

    From DOB article, quoting Hart:
“There are some similarities (to Varvaro in type of pitcher he is) and we were able to get a pretty good level of cash in this deal, too.”

So we essentially sold Varvaro for a potential Varvaro who won't take up a 40 man.

How much cash? What is the plan for that cash?

Are there any left to exterminate? If so, I am sure we'll get around to it.
