I agree—though I am thankful to see it's being reported, and reported as bad precedent, much more robustly than, say, South Park's two-part "Cartoon Wars" episode, which was similarly ridiculous and disheartening—not to mention prescient.

Once the theaters started to bail, nothing Sony could do, but I would've liked to have seen the offer extended and all the chains refusing to drop it. With this result, it won't be the last time we see this kind of thing.

The movie that caused all the problems, The Interview – a comedy which features an assassination attempt on Kim Jong-Un - was due to be launched with a glitzy premiere in New York this week.
But it’s been cancelled, for ‘safety reasons’.
The film’s two stars, Seth Rogen and James Franco, have pulled out of all interviews, also for ‘safety reasons’.
Now Sony’s announced it’s not going to release it all, caving into the pressure on its business.
To which my response is simple: what the **** is the matter with you all?
Where the hell is America’s legendary resilience and resolve?
A few crazy threats and everyone just surrenders?
Whether it’s a lone geeky lunatic doing this, or North Korea, the response should be very straightforward: ‘We’re releasing this movie, and we’re now going to market and promote it even more enthusiastically than we were planning to.’
That’s the message you send when people hold you to ransom.

It reminds me of when The Satanic Verses was published, and it confirms the doubts Rushdie expressed a couple years ago regarding whether the book would be published now.

Sony should let the movie 'leak' onto Prime, Netflix, and Cable PPV channels and let them show it for free and watch what happens.

There's Already been movies where characters have been changed so the movie gets played in China I can understand that, but Sony is wrong for lying down on this.
