Marlins Back Up Truck to acquire Prado

This crazy off-season has just gotten a little more nuts. Do NOT look forward to facing Martin 18 times next year.

I have to say, I believe the Fish overpaid for Prado. Let me first say that I absolutely love Martin Prado and would give anything to have him back. Eovaldi has the potential to be a very solid #3 starter and could become a #1/#2 with the development of another pitch and experience. Domingo German is another young starting pitcher who should become a solid #4/#5 starter with the potential to become a #3 and with a Yankees team that lacks young starting pitching in their minor leagues, German will certainly help resolve some of that. The final piece Garrett Jones will give the Bronx Bombers some insurance in case Tex misses time (which seems almost a given) and gives them a nice left-handed bat that should play well with the short porch in RF at Yankee Stadium. Martin will make $11 million in each of the next two seasons (the Yankees did send $6 million as part of the trade), and besides the versatility is he really that much different than McGehee who will make $4-5 million in his final year of arbitration. Prado played in two extremely hitter-friendly parks last year and is now moving to the total opposite, so I don't think he hits for much power next year. The second piece the Marlins get is David Phelps who will give the Marlins rotation depth and he could serve as their 5th starter until Fernandez is ready to return. Phelps most likely position will be a long-man/swingman in the bullpen.

I'm certainly going to hate facing him 50-60 times next year, and would love to have him back in Atlanta but I believe the Yankees won this deal.

How ironic that Justin and Martin get traded in the same day? LOL

Still time to add CJ to the club

And how ironic that Justin is going to a team that completely rebuilt their outfield and a lot of buzz around its potential? Sounds familiar doesn't it?

That's a pretty decent haul for Prado. Eovaldi is gonna be good.

That's a lot for Prado, but he's almost the perfect complementary player and he'll make that line-up better.

The Yankees got more for Prado than we got for Justin.

But maybe that's just me not being able to grasp the higher dimensional chess John Hart plays.

We live in Florida and watch the Marlins a lot. We were shocked that they gave up Eovaldi.

when Marlins go all in, they really go all in. But they'll bail quickly if it doesn't get results quickly. Wouldn't be surprised to see Prado get traded again.

Apparently so. Prado is under control through 2016. That extra year is obviously no small thing. Your move.

There are dozens and dozens of guys like Phelps all throughout baseball. Phelps is clearly a throw in that the Yanks didn't have much need for.

They wanted an upgrade in the rotation over Phelps. The Marlins felt they could sacrifice a pitcher while getting a very good position player back. The trade made sense from both accounts.

Sure, there may be dozens of those guys around baseball but now the Marlins have one and he is under control for a few more years. That has value.

That they will likely regret having to pay and either trade or cut.

This couldn't be further from the truth. Have you seen the Yankees rotation and their minor league depth at SP?? They would have gladly kept Phelps if they could have.
