Great. A horrible player who is (by all accounts) terrible in the clubhouse. Just what this team needs.

Meh, he was awful last year. Not expecting anything special. Should be alright for a backup catcher though.

Do you ever research before forming an opinion? This guy is going to be a disaster for Bethancourt.

LOL apparently somebody overheard Fredi talking about the Pierzynski signing in a HONEY BAKED HAM STORE and tweeted it out.

Little did Fredi G know he'd let cat out of bag with coffee-shop convo overheard. Buzz is real: #Braves 1-yr deal w/ catcher A.J. Pierzynski

Hat tip on the Pierzynski deal goes to @darrenstains, whose father ran into Fredi Gonzalez at Honeybaked Ham.

If only it could've been Mark Bowman breaking the story at the Honeybaked Ham.

Who cares if he's a douchebag, this team needs some toughness, not a bunch of softies.

In the latest survey of 100 major league players by Men's Journal, Pierzynski was voted (34%) as the "most hated player" in the league. The New York Yankees' Alex Rodriguez (10%) and Nick Swisher (9%) finished second and third, respectively.

"(Pierzynski) likes to talk a lot of (stuff), and I've heard he's a bad teammate," one National League pitcher tells Men's Journal. "He's been (mean) to guys on his own pitching staff. Basically, if you haven't got five years in the big leagues, he treats you like you're a peasant. He's that kind of guy."

Wow, that sounds like a horrible fit here. First move I haven't liked after reading that.

"According to multiple sources within the Red Sox clubhouse, Pierzynski had become such a negative influence on the team that players approached both the Sox coaches and front office to address the problem."

    From that same article:

A microcosm of Pierzynski's approach was mentioned by more than one of the backstop's former teammates, who revealed his propensity to spend a significant amount of time looking at his phone while at his locker during games. In one instance, after a particularly rough outing in which the starting pitcher had been pulled early in the game, Pierzynski could be found staring at his phone while the pitcher gave off the appearance of being an emotional wreck just a few feet away. That incident paved the way for at least one complaint to management from a teammate.

The frustrations with Pierzynski among the Red Sox grew with the catcher's indifference toward the perceived needs of the club. While it was understood that former Sox catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia had some flaws in his game, it was noted in multiple corners of the clubhouse that the difference between the current Marlins backstop and Pierzynski was that Saltalamacchia was invested in his pitchers' successes and failures, whereas Pierzynski had limited interest in branching out beyond himself.

This is going to be terrible for Bethancourt. And if the team had problems with Johnson getting mad AT HIMSELF, wait until they spend a little time with this guy. Ugh.

A vocal contingent wanted Swisher signed by the Braves as a FA. Don't know if the org had ever even mentioned his name, except in jest, but frankly hope they were sensible enough not to. Anyway, yours truly pointed to that survey (yes, he's regarded as a clown). Further, his career post-season OPS were posted and the numbers were nausea-inducing. The comments were completely ignored, and they just went about their banter, as if it were fantasy league talk.

We would have been much, much better off keeping Evan behind the plate, Bethancourt as his backup, and signed Aoki to play left. This is a really bad signing.
