Like many of you, I'm mixed on Hart's first offseason as the man in charge of managing the MLB roster. Most of the smaller deals have been good, but the Markakis contract and the handling of Justin's trade market are questionable. Also, the overall vision of building from pitching and emphasizing contact skills also makes me a bit nervous. Time will tell, but it seems a bit rigid and maybe outdated.
Let's not forget though that arguably the most important thing that Hart has done this offseason is to rebuild the scouting and player development department. His work in this regard has been viewed very positively in the industry from everything I've seen. I believe his experience and relationships were key in making this happen, and it's unlikely that a "new blood" GM would have been able to pull this off with the same degree of success.
I'm hopeful that Coppy will continue to get more authority in the areas where Hart's leadership concerns me. If so, the relatively short Hart regime may prove to be successful. We'll obviously have a much better read on this a year from now.

I suspect that Pastornicky will be better going forward than Gosselin. But the front office obviously believes otherwise.
The Outman signing is a good one. I wonder if this means we'll see Russell and Hale battle it out in spring training for the fifth starter spot.

I was reading MLBTR about Harding and Saunders of the Denver Post suggesting LOOGY Boone Logan as an option for the Mets. That reminded me just how much he got paid last year, Colorado is paying him 16.5 million on a three year deal. That is crazy money for a LOOGY and makes our recent signing of Josh Outman look even better.
Good call dak, Pastornicky did pass through waivers which you'd guessed. I am glad to be wrong as I figured someone would claim him given some teams needs at second, his age, etc. Further, I guess him being out of options hurt his chances of being claimed because a team claiming him couldn't just send him to AAA and recall him later.

Pastornicky, who was DFA'd last week, has cleared waivers. It appears he'll begin the upcoming season with Gwinnett. #Braves
PS: Pastornicky's biggest fan Nikki Hobas can breathe now, lol. She took his being DFA'd hard on twitter.
