DOB: Braves close to signing Wandy Rodriguez

@DOBrienAJC: Reports out of Dominican that Wandy Rodriguez failed physical 2 wks ago after agreeing w/ Phillies and now close to signing w/ #Braves

@DOBrienAJC: Minor league contract, so it's not guaranteed, but #Braves signee Wandy R. will get $2M base salary prorated for time on major league roster

Good no risk move. He was a solid pitcher for a while. May be done because of the injury who knows. But it's a good no risk move

Another option with no risk is always a good thing. I wonder why he failed the physical, yet we were still willing to give him a minor league deal?

I suppose its alright because there is no risk. I just don't want this guy pitching for us. I hope I'm wrong.

There is no injured pitcher that John Hart doesn't love

It's a $2M base contract that he only gets if he makes the team. Good move.

I'm hoping for Hale to get a shot, but Wandy is much preferable to Wang.

Agreed. I think Hale could generate the most value if he had a successful season considering his age and contract situation. That would be the best play for this organization moving forward.

The return on a guy like Wandy even if he is pitching well would be mediocre at best.

Good no risk move since it's a minor league deal, if he proves healthy let him battle it out with Hale and Banuelos.

Hale did his best work starting last year and has improved the last few years. So he is still our best option but I have no problem giving Wandy a shot. Plus you never know about injuries in spring as we saw last year.

We can't break with tradition. Somebody's got to complain...even about the most uncontroversial transactions.

Heyman also noted that Wandy pitches for Aguilas tonite.

Best move of our offseason. Magic Wandy was pretty good for Houston a few years back and dominated us a couple times. He is old, but he can still pitch at this level. I love this.

Bleh....not sure what this accomplishes besides maybe giving the walking wounded a moral support partner and someone to look up to?

It hopefully accomplishes the same thing signing Freddy Garcia And Harang did. We have had a lot of luck with washed up starters lately. There is no risk in this signing.
