What came before: An all-American at Arizona, was signed by Braves in 1962.
Had cups of coffee with Milwaukee in 1963-64, breaking in at age 20, but was workhorse for the final Atlanta Crackers team in 1965: 43 games (23 starts) 10-7, 3.03 ERA in 184 innings.
His 1966 season: Was the ace of the Richmond staff until his midseason recall: 6-2, 2.91 in 18 games. But as a Brave, the skinny lefty (6-3, 170) was more of a situational lefty with middling success. He pitched in 14 games for the Braves, all in relief, was 0-0, 3.42.
He was actually more successful at the plate. After beginning his career 0-for-16, he was 4-for-6 in July with his first hit coming off Don Drysdale.
Beyond the season: Schneider was part of an October trade that sent he, infielder Lee Bales and minor league lefty Tom Dukes to the Astros for infielder Ed Pacheco, catcher John Hoffman and first baseman Gene Ratliff. None of the three ever played in Atlanta.
Schneider was a LOOGY for the Astros in 1967, pitching in 54 games (53 innings, 0-2, 4.96, 2 saves) but gave up 18 runs in 18 innings over July and August, then injured his arm and only pitcher in six more MLB games, all in 1969, giving up runs in each of his six games. He was out of baseball following the 1970 season.
