I doubt either side is lying. Just using spin, posturing and wordsmithing to create the impression that best suits them. Heyward doesn't want to appear greedy and the Braves don't want to appear cheap. Choose your words carefully and you make yourself look good and the other side look bad... Agents and GM's are professionals at it. Players say what their agent tells them to.

This is all part of the master plan. Now no one will claim we had a deal with Jason before trading him.

This is exactly what's happening IMO, too.
Both sides are halfway pointing the finger at the other side. This is not surprising.
I just wish at this point they at least parted on good terms, because if that were the case, it wouldn't be out of the question for him to re-sign here once he sees what the market actually offers. Right now, it will likely range a lot depending on this season. If he can't be more consistent at the plate, it won't be as high. But if he has a season like he had a few years back, plays 150+ games, etc. he will get PAID.

Been saying it sincr the trade.

What a teammate Heyward is. Goes along with the trade to help the Braves get pitching talent and comes back.

If the Braves were to make the highest offer next year, all would be forgiven. I don't expect that. Someone will overpay, but he would not walk away from the best offer because it came from Atlanta.

So if Heywood is worth 25 million a year hitting under a .800 OPS then what would he be worth if he finally puts it all together at the plate? 50 million a year? You know he is gonna hit like .330 and hit 40 homers now that the Cardinals have him.

Heyward is gone, and since I hate the Cardinals, I hope he falls flat on his face.

Does anybody here know if the Cardinals have much of a history with discussing contracts during the season?

Discussing? I don't know. I haven't been able to find a high profile player they extended mid-season. Pujols was offseason, and then when he came up again, both sides set a ST date to end extension talks. Only example of an inseason extension I could find was over a decade ago with Chris Carpenter and that was in April which probably meant the bulk of negotiating was done before the season.

He would get Trout money. That would be his upside if he put up like a WRC+ 150 or higher along with his great base running and world beater defense.

Who gives a damn. He is no longer a Brave, so he is no longer my concern. We have Shelby Miller and Tyrell Jenkins instead. Those are my concerns and who I will be pulling for.

No, the "being worth $25 mil" is based on the fact that many people think he will progress a good amount still.

That sounds about right. Possibly even most teams have policies against contract discussions during the season.
