Ramiro Pena to Padres, minor league deal.
What would he have done had he stayed healthy in 2013?
Obviously, plenty more infielders where he came from ... and most of them will be in camp.

2013 was a small sample size fluke for Pena... Just look at the larger MLB sample size and his awful minor league numbers... He's simply not a good baseball player and we were lucky to get any production out of him.

Pena wasn't very good. He won't beat out anyone at SS.
We'll always be grateful for the extra inning homer against the Nats early in 2013. That's one more big moment than most light-hitting utility infielders get, so kudos to Ramiro for that.
Yeah, it set the tone for our season too.
It's too bad he got hurt, because it probably fooled the front office into thinking that he could play. Thus, we were stuck with him instead of looking for a better alternative. Our bench last year may have been our worst since 1990.
I agree. However, I think that was largely due to the (mighty) struggles of Ryan Doumit. I think our bench could have been much better with someone like Nate Schierholtz (who was released by the Cubs in August) or someone similar, heck even a guy like Todd Cunningham or Joey T would have been better than Doumit. Lets face it, he was brought in to serve as a third catcher so Gattis could be used as a PH when he wasn't starting behind the plate but after they saw him (Doumit) back there, they knew right away he couldn't catch for us. I mean he caught TWO games for us and gave up SEVEN stolen bases, so why not carry a better pinch hitter and a better defensive outfielder.

Has there EVER been a statement and question a certain someone should absolutely never have made and asked publicly more than...
Kinda pathetic to see yourself as a message board knight in shining armor. How impotent does someone have to be in real life to resort to playing hero on a message board?
