    Better Call Saul

What did you think of it?

I'll try to leave out any spoilers for anyone who hasn't watched it yet. I thought it was a pretty good 1st episode. Obviously, they have it set up during the same general time frame as Breaking Bad. Fun to see some old faces, but I hope they don't dwell too much on those characters.

I won't judge it until ther are more episodes. Too many shows have started strong then just fizzled.

I liked the first one fine. The first two episodes have gotten generally good reviews across the board. We'll see where it goes from there, but I think the show is definitely in good hands.

Key thing is not to expect it to become as great as Breaking Bad was.

    Homeland sucks.

Anyway, the show is pretty good so far. Color me a little surprised by how good it is. I think I liked the first episode more than the second though. The pacing could use a little work around the edges.

I'm a pretty big Bob Odenkirk fan, and while I've only seen the first season of Breaking Bad (which failed to hook me), I've really liked the bits and pieces of his Saul character I've seen in clips et cetera.

So, a question for fans of Breaking Bad who've seen the first two episodes of Better Call Saul: Will I need to actually watch the remainder of Breaking Bad to "get" Better Call Saul, or can I just dive right into the latter series?

Is this basically a show about what went on during Breaking Bad that focuses on Saul?

No, It's a show about how Saul became the Saul we know in Breaking bad. A prequel of some sorts.

Jury is probably out, since we don't know where they're going, but it has been confirmed that the two central characters of Breaking Bad won't be in the first season. Still, the first scene of Better Call Saul would come across better if you've watched all the way through, and a couple of other Breaking Bad supporting characters have already popped up.

So, I guess I'd lean toward yes to answer your question.

BTW, Breaking Bad got better with every season, so I'd give it another crack if I were you. If you aren't hooked by midway through Season 2 (about the time Saul comes on board), I question your ability to be hooked to any show lol.

Really shocked at how much I liked the first two episodes and how well they were done, wasn't expecting to like it or for it to be good.

I think it's a testament to Odenkirk's acting and Gilligan and company's writing. Really interested to see how Saul's (or James McGill's) relationship with Mike unfolds this season.

It's going to be sticky between them that's certain.

If you want full enjoyment, absolutely. The show does manage to stand on its own so far though. Still, it's obvious that it's meant as a companion piece to Breaking Bad.

I didn't love the finale, but the first season was about as well executed as possible. This seems to have classic written all over it.

And even though we know what happens to Saul leading into Breaking Bad, we don't know about Saul post Breaking Bad. Bob Odenkirk has said in interviews that that is something they have discussed doing in future seasons.
