I'm guessing Mallex Smith got an invite in part due to his solid AFL showing. Plus the Braves seem pretty high on him with multiple Braves execs comparing Smith to Michael Bourn and expressing no concerns over his hit tool. Further, another interesting invite is lefty Brady Feigl, he has an interesting story and was very good his short stint in High A. Also, J.J. Cooper said he stood out to him watching him in Rome while noting that he had a 55 fastball and some feel for a breaking ball.

That said, I'm optimistic that Cedric Hunter surprises some folks and has a strong Spring Training to make the team.

BTW, Braves shouldn't have too much of a 40-man roster crunch now since they can add Winkler along with Shae Simmons to the 60-day DL. They've already did so with Simmons so the 40-man currently sits at 39 players. Once they do so with Winkler that will open up two spots, and you also have Jaime out of options and unlikely to make the team. So that is three spots open most likely barring a trade. Then you also have other trade candidates like Avilan that could be used to open another spot.

If you're looking for early off-the-radar type who could make #Braves roster: lefty reliever Brady Feigl. He's impressing some imp't folks.

Thanks to CBS Sports.com, we have complete numbering now for the new roster.

    Changes from last year:
Bethancourt changes from 25 to 27. Flores, non-roster catcher, now has 25.
Gosselin 15 to 11 (was Laird). Pierzynski gets 15.
Terdoslavich gives up 17 to Shelby Miller, takes Medlen's 54.
8 goes from JUp to Eury Perez.
22 goes from Heyward to Markakis
24 goes from Gattis to Kelly Johnson.
52 goes from Walden to Veal (non-roster)
30 goes from Santana to Wang
34 goes from Harang to Buck
37 goes from Beachy to Stults

Hard to believe Tanner Murphy went down. I really thought he had a shot. Someone remind me who he is again?

Young catcher. All-star in short season league. Or were you being funny?

Braves assign Cuban free agent Dian Toscano to Gwinnett. I hope that means he's finally made it into camp,.

I read where he is probably at least a few weeks away from being cleared to enter the U.S.

Cut from the minor league camp was OF Will Skinner. Signed was an indy FA pitcher, Dustin Bare, who allegedly throws a knuckleball. Guess they needed to find something for Phil Niekro something to do.

Russell released Sunday. DOB says that leaves 38 in camp.

Don't know if I should put Constanza on this thing on or, otherwise, leaving as is (no Benson, etc.)
