Well, if Minor tried to game the system by saying he was injured when he wasn't, the Braves should have recourse to take him to arbitration in order to avoid paying the full contract. Both parties know that they can't get away with lying, so no realistic way it would come to this.
It's still a dangerous play though since he could get hurt. The Rockies basically did this with Jhoulys Chacin this Spring and he too had a history of shoulder injuries.
Surgery to repair his labrum. Out for the year. Considering how hard it is to come back from a labrum tear, it wouldn't surprise me if he's never an effective major leaguer again.
@DOBrienAJC
Doc did exploratory surgery, found labrum damage, repaired it. At least #Braves Minor knows what was causing pain. MRIs didn't show tear.
Our attrition rate with pitchers is incredible. Incredibly sad, but still incredible.

Bowman has an article up with some promising news on Minor, all things considered. If he can really start throwing in September, we should be able to get a decent read on his health and effectiveness before the non-tender deadline. I was expecting him to be shut down into the Winter.
Minor was encouraged that the repairs were made without having to undergo a significantly intrusive procedure. He will undergo four to six months of rehab and begin a throwing program as early as September.
. . .
Minor should have time to make all of the necessary preparations to get back on the mound at some point in October or November. This would give the Braves time to evaluate his status and determine whether they want to keep him in their organization.

Labrum was frayed with a slight tear. This is about as good a scenario as it could have been. Explains the pain and nothing showing up on the MRI. Still shoulder surgery and a long rehab but not a full tear so that's encouraging.
Assuming he's throwing in the fall and progressing I'd tender. 5 mill is a reasonable price to pay for one last stand on a guy who was good.
