    Toscano sighting

Dion Toscano arrived in the United States this week.
Toscano signed a four-year, $7.5 million contract with the Braves in December and was expected to compete for a spot on Atlanta's bench this spring, but visa issues delayed his arrival by a couple of months. The 26-year-old Cuban defector did not play on his country's national team, so he was a relative unknown to the authorities who handle such legal matters. Toscano, projected to be a utility outfielder, will spend some time in the minors before being considered for the major league roster.

This signing was puzzling to me. Hope it works out for the best.

Hard for me to say it was puzzling or good because I have no clue what to expect. I will just defer to the Braves scouts who obviously liked the guy enough to offer him a deal.

That's what makes it puzzling to me. It's not a huge investment of resources, but it's still over $1 million a year for a guy who wasn't on many folks' radar. I want him to succeed and Lord knows we need OFs. Just thought there might be a better option out there for the money.

It's over a million with a multi yr commit for a guy who supposedly can only play LF, has a noodle arm, and has no power. But that fits the new braves profile.

Maybe KJ and/or Gomes will play well enough we can flip them for a C prospect at the deadline and give this guy a shot.

Him starting in the minors is probably best anyway.

We just need to know two things:

-How often does he strike out?
-How often does he hit doubles?
"Yes, I did think Aldrich was good UNTIL I SAW HIM PLAY. "- thethe
