    2015-16 off season

just curious where you think we might be looking to do this off season? How much money do we have to play with assuming the 110m payroll (can we even assume that?) ? Thoughts....

    1. Hopefully Minor comes back strong and then he can be traded in the off season
    2. They may look at extending Shelby Miller if he pitches well
    3. Dump CJ
    4. Rebuild bullpen with guys on the scrap heap for McDowell to fix
    5. Fill CF or LF with an impact guy via trade
    6. Consider extending Alex Wood depending on their feel for his long term health and his willingness to be team friendly
    7. Re-write the wikipedia page to blame the Texiera trade on Wren

#1 priority should be a RH bat that can hit after Freddie.

Maybe a list of potential FAs would be helpful for this tread?

We just traded the top 2 position players so that kind of narrows our choices down to crap or ****.

    I say...

    1. Sign Heyward or JUp for RF, move Markakis to LF.
    2. Trade for Jackie Bradley Jr.
    3. Sign TOR starter
    4. (maybe in the 2016-2017 offseason) Trade for Tulo to play 3B.

    Going into 2017:

    C - CB
    1B - FF
    2B - Jace/Peraza
    3B - Tulo
    SS - Simmons
    LF - Markakis
    CF - JB Jr
    RF - Heyward/JUp

If Peraza proves to be a good CFer, the JB Jr trade becomes unnecessary.

Neftali Feliz will be the #1 guy, I think. After that we might see Parra come in for the bench and Fowler for CF.

JUp and Heyward would be the best options.....I can't see them coming back. I doubt we'll be the top bidder and I don't see them coming to us unless we are 10% higher than the highest bidder.

That's why I don't think FA is the best option. REALLY hope we don't spend big money and/or multi year on a Closer.

I think we see a lot wheeling and dealing...again.

Say Heyward puts up .280/.360/.450 this year. What kind of contract does he get? I would be all for giving him 20+ mill now that Kimbrel and Melvin are gone.

25-27 mil a year with his all-world defense is a fair estimate.

You have to start with what we'll have.

I feel ok about the following:

    SP - Teheran
    SP - Wood
    SP - Miller

    C - Bethancourt
    1B - Freeman
    SS - Simmons
    2B - Peterson
    RF - Markakis

Throw Peraza into the IF mix, and you're looking at 2 SP spots, the bullpen, and CF/LF.

We have several young pitchers on the verge who could take at least one of those spots...Folty, Wisler, Banuelos. And a couple of the SP options could go to the pen. I wouldn't mind seeing Folty, Hursh, and Vizcaino down there.

I would like us to spend the money on an ace and then be prepared to spend more on offense before 2017. I would love to get Heyward, but I doubt that's a viable option.

After that, you just have to wait and see who performs and what kind of value they give you. We could have some guys really come along and flip them for a good piece in the OF. Never know.

He's not locked in, but I feel ok about him for next year.

I'd be surprised if we made a move for a catcher next year.

IMO, we stand just as good a chance of signing either as anybody else, except that I doubt we're willing to spend what it will take. If they hit FA, they'll be looking to take the best deal, wherever that is.
