I guess it was too easy to just write.....BJ.

BJ was so bad he cost us Kimbrel. That is it. Great trade for the Braves but wish it didn't have to happen.

I think you could make the argument that Kimbrel for Wisler, the other dude, and the 41st pick, and saved money from Kimbrel's contract is a pretty fair value... The bad contract swap was just icing on the cake

Still a bad trade. Fledibiity does the Braves nothing. It just allows them to acquire more over paid players.

I would not have been happy with CK for Wisler, lottery pick OF years away and a pick. For CK I would have wanted at least 1 elite prospect. I live Wisler a lot. Some say he can be a 2. But for CK, without BJ, you want a stud. Wisler isn't a guy who people think will just dominate and miss a ton of bats.....at least now what I've read.

But with BJ's contract I think it's a great deal for the braves.

I agree, and still maintain that Maybin might be an additional few dollops of icing as well.

Nobody is going to trade a Tajun Walker-type prospect for a closer who is making over $12M a year.

Most of us here want Heyward back? Well this deal made that possible. They can target any offensive player that they want and basically meet that demand. I used to think it would be JUp, as he is more what the team needs, a RH true power bat but doubt he would be interested in coming back here.

Ditto, though he'll have to, you know, play to prove that.

I don't feel we have seen the last of CK in an Atl uni either. When the Pads have their firesale we will be front of the line for his services.

There is no doubt we sold high on him. That is what smart teams do - sell high.
I'm with sturg, I make that trade WITHOUT dumping BJ. The fact that we did is just gravy.

I don't understand how we were able to get a top prospect in Wisler, Jordan Paroubeck, draft pick along with unloading BJ for Kimbrel. It was a fantastic trade.

We got Wisler, Fried, Peterson, Mallex Smith, Dustin Peterson, Paroubeck, Maybin, the 41st pick, and unloaded BJ...for Kimbrel and one year of Justin.

That's great value. Good idea to match up with the in trades.

We weren't getting a top 10 or so prospect for Kimbrel even we didn't trade BJ, in the 20-50 range it really depends on scouting and I happen to trust our talent evaluators quite a bit.

Wisler was a consensus top 50 prospect... better than anyone we got from Heyward, Upton, or Gattis...

That's good value for an expensive - albeit dominant - closer

Maybe you're right. People thought we'd get that for 1 year of Upton or Heyward though...

CK is controlled for several years at a reasonable rate. I know 12 million is a lot for 70 innings, but it's still a bargain for WAR.

I guess what I'm saying is that if we didn't have BJ on the roster, then I'm not trading CK unless I get that guy. And I think I might get that guy at the deadline when someone is desperate of smelling a playoff or world series run. Adding BJ clearly devalues the CK asset and limits the pool. CK on his own is a 5+ team bidding war.

But I'm not a guy who is really into the closer position or saves. And I'm not saying anything bad about this trade. I think it's a great trade.
