4/14/15 GDT Jace still out of the lineup

    Braves lineup:
    1. EY CF
    2. Callaspo 2B
    3. Markakis RF
    4. Freeman 1B
    5. Pierzynski C
    6. C. Johnson 3B
    7. K. Johnson LF
    8. Simmons SS
    9. Cahill RHP

Cahill's first start at a Brave! It'll be interesting to see what we get out of him. I think Roger could do work with a heavy sinker like his!

It looks like it's now a platoon at second base as well, I take it? Either way, both Callaspo and CJoh have been on fire, hitting everything in sight.

But, let's hope this team continue to do work and keep this hot start going!!!

If Roger can do to Cahill's sinker what he's done in helping Jim Johnson rediscover his then the rotation is actually pretty damned formidable.

Some positive information about Simmons's first week. Hitting a lot less ground balls and a good rate of line drives. Also hitting to all fields. The offense might not end up being such an abortion if Simmons and CJ hit well.

I'm hoping that Peterson sitting has more to do with Callaspo/Johnson starting off hot than anything else. Kid needs to play.

Good. If anything, I love having his defense in. He's a young gun though, he needs his reps.

Does anyone else think it strange the same people bashed Fredi for using Jaimie are bashing Fredi for not using Jace ?
Jace is a nice player and all but I don't get this man crushin' posters have for 2Bmen that have trouble getting the ball out of the infield

True, but he hasn't deserved to take away playing time for any of the veterans that play second or third base.

I think it's an effort to try and convince themselves that this was a positive trade for the Braves. They will try and spin anything in the right direction to make it look good. Peterson is their love boy now.

Fredi just saving Jace for when we'll need him to PH late in the game...strategery at it's finest.

On the contrary, people are puzzled because if 2017 is the year the fo is looking at to compete why are we not giving Jace most of the playing time to be ready for 2017?

If you want to argue about increasing Callaspo's trade value for July that's one but Jace should be getting all of his learning bruises and growing pains Now.

Well, he did spark the rally that won the game last night as a pinch hitter.

When you are rebuilding, information is your friend. Need to find out if this kid is a piece or not. Can't do that on the bench.

Especially if Wisler can come in and take the 5th spot from Stults, that could be quite formidable.

It really is a shame that Minor is hurt. 2013 Minor would make this team a legitimately interesting sleeper.

To be fair, Peterson still got two at bats last night. I imagine with all the double switching that we should be able to do (Fredi willing), then none of our bench players should go too long without some at bats.

Callaspo's hitting .471, so I suppose if you simply must have him on your team then you kind of have to play him right now. And since you want to give Johnson just enough time to line some singles and tempt a needy team into a panic trade, second base is all you've got.

Still, Peterson needs to be the guy at second the vast majority of the time. Find out what you've got in him.

I wouldn't mind seeing Jace get some time in LF in place of Kelly. But perhaps that's because I see Jace for as a super utility guy moving forward.

    But not Jaime ?

For the record I love Jace and hope he develops into at least a .250 hitter because I think if that were the case he will have a long MLB career.

    That's not a bad idea.

My baseless, hare-brained impression of Peterson is that he's likely a super utility guy on a team with a championship caliber set of position players- he'd probably (hopefully?) be over-qualified for that role, but elite offenses often have guys who are over-qualified for their jobs. You can probably (hopefully?) play him at second base or third every day and hit him eighth in an otherwise stacked lineup and be OK as long as you don't ask much of him offensively. If he takes on a larger role than that you're probably in a bit of trouble.

But figuring this stuff out is the entire point of this season.

Yes, not Jaime. He's been around.

Jaime is fairly obviously not gonna cut it. Always had control issues, but fwiw I didn't care about giving Jaime another shot for giggles to see what he could put together.
