Curious to see if Daniel Castro continues to hit where he'll end up in the organizational pecking order.

The more box scores come in, the more I believe Eury Perez could be at least as effective as EYJr, possibly more so.

I think he'll end up better than guys like Elmer Reyes, Gosselin and Jace Peterson. Still projects as a bench player in the majors (behind Simmons, Peraza and Albies in our system), but better than the other utility infielder types that we have.

His walk rate so far this season (11.3%) is well above what he has been able to sustain in the past. But it would not take much to produce an improvement over EYJr's performance so far. EYJr himself is likely to produce an improvement over that.

I never know what to think with these pitcher numbers. Tehran ruined it for me. He kept putting up terrible numbers and the Braves kept saying he was untouchable. Then he got up to the bigs and was very good.

    Hope that is Wisler....

Wisler has 10 strikeouts (one per inning) and 3 walks. He is doing fine.

And that may be it. I shouldn't care about hits and earned runs and innings. K/9 works. K/BB works.

Ideally, you want your pitchers in the minors working on specific things and not caring about results. There is a lot to be encouraged regarding Wisler.

Walk and strikeout rates are the best predictors of future performance. Hits can be inflated or deflated by where the ball happens to land. There is much less randomness and luck to the walk and strikeout numbers.

I wouldn't say K/BB is the best predictor as a blanket statement. But in a case like Wisler yesterday, it's more encouraging for a prospect to make 2 mistakes and give up HRs (because it should be more easily correctable) and 4 runs than to walk 5 or get hit hard often and give up 2.

But if one guy has a 10 K/9 and 2 BB/9 but gets hit hard often, and another guy has an 8 K/9 and a 3 BB/9 but rarely gives up hard contact, I'd predict the latter to have more success in the majors.

I agree that Castro will probably end up better than Reyes and Gosselin, but I am not sure he'll end up better than Peterson. I think it's more likely they'll have similar value but I still like Peterson better at this point.

BTW, I caught the Mississippi game last night. Mallex Smith didn't have his bunting shoes on last night, he tried bunting for a hit his first two AB's and once later on but none worked last night. He had two bunt hits the game before and usually gets at least one out of three to work, just an off night I suppose.
