Looks like it just means Beth replaces AJ.

Hopefully he keeps the top 3 the same.

Fredi indicated he's going back to his initial plan to utilize Jace Peterson as his primary second baseman.

Nice! I'm starting to wonder if Fredi got called into the principal's office yesterday.

I was thinking the same thing. I wondered if maybe Hart would ask (tell) him to just go with the rookie to see what he's got. It's not like Callaspo was doing much anyway.

Yeah. At least Asshole is playing well enough to get traded if it continues. That said, if Bethancourt is going to be the backup for the first half, I would rather see him get sent down.

Bethancourt had a .308 OBP in AAA and .274 in the majors last year. To me this indicated he needed more time in the minors. All we're doing right now is burning service time for a player who could be valuable down the line. And we're burning service time in a season the front office decided to punt. For similar reasons I hope we don't call up Peraza, Wisler or any of our more valuable prospects.

At this point I think you have to think his absolute ceiling as a hitter is JP Arencibia. I get that he's got some skills defensively, but I don't see how that separates him from say a guy like Henry Blanco. Blanco of course was almost exclusively a back up catcher. I would get upset at Fredi for not playing Bethancourt, but it's really difficult for me to care. I just don't have much confidence that kid is ever going to hit.
    thank you weso1!

He's got the tools to be way better offensively than Arencibia, but it sounds like he's got some growing up to do before he can reach that potential. Hopefully he doesn't turn into the next Frenchy.

It's a tough call on Bethancourt, but I'd prefer we don't burn his last option year. He came into the year w/ 72 service days, so we'd need to keep him down for 2-3 months in order to impact his service clock. I think it's unlikely that Pierzynski can stay healthy and effective that long, so not worth the gamble since it costs you his last option.

I'm not sure what tools you see keith, but you are the expert. Still, I see a guy with similar minor league numbers to that of Arencibia, but not as much pop. A guy that swings at everything but still strikes out quite a bit.
    thank you weso1!

What are we saving his last option for. By next season he'll be better and hopefully we'll have a slightly more competitive team.

I'm not sold on Bethancourt as a primary catcher. Keeping the option year provides flexibility next year or beyond when we're more competitive.

Somebody had a "come to Jesus" meeting, it seems. You know, Fredi might be a halfway acceptable manager if Hart keeps him under his thumb.

We burned ourselves with Heyward as far as service time. We could have had him another year if we had just held back a couple weeks. They were talking about that in relation to the Kris Bryant/Cubs situation on MLB last month. I would hope lessons were learned.
