Trades like this are how you know Johnson and Grilli will be aggressively shopped.

Luis Avilan might give this trade a thumbs-down if he could move his withered, clawlike left arm.

Btw, he had some velo back the other day. He couldn't locate it, but he was hitting 94-95

This is a win win for Fredi. If we kept Callaspo he could continue a Ciriallspo Platoon. Trade Callaspo and he can start Ciriaco more or go with an Uriaco platoon.

Since Withrow spent FOUR full seasons in Chattanooga, it was clear he did not find himself until moved to bullpen. Closer type arm.

I'm legitimately intrigued about how Fredi is going to handle both Uribe and CJ. Uribe is a better player than CJ, but the Braves also need to start CJ as much as they can to create the illusion of trade value. Interesting situation.

Interesting to not that Uribe has minor reverse splits. So maybe a straight platoon wouldn't be the worst idea.

From what I've read about Withrow, his value / talent seems to be a little less than Shae Simmons but a little greater than guys like Cody Martin and Brandon Cunniff.

maybe can't count on all of them coming back....but Viz, Simmons, Rockies kid, and Withrow are 4 power arms in the pen. All RH IIRC, but power arms.

Quite frankly, they had me at "Braves trade Stults, Callaspo, ..."

Of course it's still not yet official but assuming it's as reported, I'm immensely pleased we didn't include Cody Martin in the package. I like Withrow more, mind you, but it would have dulled the shine a bit if Martin was included instead of Thomas or Jaime.

I think Chris Johnson is headed for DFA land in the coming months - that or we pay to trade him to someone

Why? We owe him 2 more years. He still hits lefties. Do we have roster spot issues?

I think he's too good and too much money/years to DFA. He's not good, but he has some value. Somebody might pay a 1/3 of his salary

Agreed. I doesn't make sense to DFA Chris just because he's making more money than he's worth. The money he's being paid is a sunk cost you're paying no matter what. The question is whether he's better than your alternatives.

While Chris is never coming close to 2013 again, he's hopefully better than we saw last year. As you said, he still hits lefties. Though that is an understatement. Chris destroys lefties. As bad as last year was he still hit .395 against them and seems to be doing about the same this year.

With as lefty heavy as this lineup can be sometimes, Chris is a nice piece to have. Overpaid but still worth keeping. If someone offered to pay his contract I'd deal him in a heartbeat but he's not someone you DFA.

He is a 1 dimensional player who is worse than just about every option we have on the roster. Plus he is likely blocking Peraza next year (assuming Jace continues to start)

I would keep him as a bench player then outright DFA him. We still play guys like ciriaco

To me, Uribe and Chris Johnson are the same player offensively - with a big nod to Uribe on defense.

Next year, I would assume Peraza is up, so neither of them will be needed. He just kind of takes up space.

Of all Wren's moves, the CJ extension was the the dumbest in my opinion
