Just spitballing, but I wonder if they sign Callaspo if the J. Upton trade is made a week earlier. But I agree with your basic point.

That's where I heard it first, hopefully it's a done deal and a good one rather than just having to eat his remaining contract for this year. Though I would expect the latter more likely.

You pay state income taxes based on where you earn your money, not where you live. And that might have had something to do with it. Still, I think the teams could have worked around this problem.

Exactly. It's the reason why spring training is played in AZ and FL because they have no state income tax.
