Only major difference is Peraza is a 2B, which is huge. He can hit to a .650 OPS with 25 SB and be a good player.

That's almost 10 minutes per entire inning!

Disagree. To me, the major difference is Smith has shown much better on-base skills than Peraza. If Peraza doesn't hit for average, he'll be a liability at 2B—at least the very least, as long as Simmons doesn't improve substantially with the bat (and/or as long as the Braves have a no-homer hitter in RF).

Mallex has also shown more power, and has even more speed.
I don't think either of us are wrong. It's clear Smith was underrated by a lot of people this past off-season. Glad we're the beneficiaries.

Weird how that works. Last night, the board (as well as the ESPN play by play) were at 30-45 seconds ahead of my TV broadcast.

I really hope we can trade Markakis at some point because I want to keep Peraza, Smith and Peterson but it will be harder to do with a no power corner outfielder starter in Markakis. I mean that is a lot of players with not much power, though Jace could end up a platoon player at third and back-up that plays all over either way.

Personally, I would be more interested in keeping Maybin and moving him to RF if we didn't have Markakis in the mix.

Peterson needed that hit, esp. after the called his infield hit the other night an error in LA.

Heston has put up some weird stats this year. He has had 9 starts this year. In 5 starts, he has allowed 0 or 1 ER. In the other 4, he has allowed 5 or 6 ER.

While this is true, we can't forget that Mallex Smith is 22 and Peraza is already a level ahead of him at 21. Peraza showed fine on-base skills at Rome and is doing it again at Gwinnett.

Peraza's bat is supposed to be better than Smith's. We'll see if that holds true, but where Smith will probably have to get some walks to be effective since he'll probably hit .270 or below, Peraza has a legitimate chance to be a .300 major league hitter.

I love both guys and hope they both turn into studs. I'm just not sure why Braves fans are suddenly souring some on Peraza. The guy is a legit prospect. There's no one right now who is wondering if he can be a good major-league regular in the future.

I mean, good grief, we're calling a kid who is hitting well at AAA as a 21-year-old, who is a top 50 prospect, a potential liability at 2B? That's insane.

I'm not among those souring on him, I am just excited by what I am seeing by Smith so far this season. I am still very high on both though. In fact, I want to keep both along with Peterson too.

This game has the feel of the bullpen blowing it late.

I agree with a large majority of your post, but why will Mallex "probably" hit .270 or below?
