Besides the really good Allard pick, we are flushing this golden opportunity straight down the crapper. Very underwhelming and disappointing draft.

I'm not crying about anything. Just noting it, and it seems a little curious. Just interested in where we're going to go with that money.

We have the 4th most pool money in the entire draft. I don't know why you think we're forced to go under slot with all of our picks just because we took Allard, who was good value according to some (including me) but was projected even lower than 14 by others.

I like all of our picks so far except the last one. Not feeling Lucas Herbert. Having a tough time hearing that announced over the PA system.

Bleh... Would have been nice to not take 3 big reaches in our top 4 picks.

I'm sure it will work out, but my immediate reaction is underwhelming.

We clearly targeted pitching from the get-go, but I'm guessing they like these guys a lot, and especialy for their potential value (which is really important to them, it has to be). maybe they didn't see the value money or talent wise at their picks except at pitcher.
I also just don't see that the Cubs are clearly targeting hitting. Their picks were pretty obvious to take and they had little, if any, limitations. We have not been in that spot.
I think they Cubs have picked so many hitters over the past few years (including their top 2 picks this year when they were not picking very early as in recent years) that it is unlikely that it is just a random thing reflecting how the board played out. I think they have had a view about the relative scarcity/value of pitching versus hitting that is different from the crowd.

On a positive note, one thing I do like? They're all high-schoolers. I think every draft (unless you're picking at the very top and can get an elite college guy) should be spent taking high school players almost exclusively at the top, then more college players as you get past the first 3-5 rounds.

Yup. Should be mostly high schoolers in the top 3 rounds. But we also have had some success with college pitchers in rounds 2 and 3 (Wood and Kimbrel!)

True. College RPs are ok if they're potentially elite and can get to the majors quickly. I still wouldn't take one until round 3, though.

Wood was a great pick, and we kind of got lucky there that others were scared off.

My big board for the next 2-3 rounds. Hoping we pick up at least a couple of these guys. No particular order.

    Bubba Derby
    Travis Blankenhorn
    Jack Wynkoop
    Fitz Stadler
    Dayton Dugas
    Joey Bart
    Gray Fenter
    Doak Dozier
    Skye Bolt

I wonder if we drafted the catcher to help sign the pitcher. The kid is ecstatic about it on twitter

I would like to see us take a juco or college catcher, one with at least some chance to be a starter. If there is one available.
    thank you weso1!

Based on Weso's criteria... how do we not take Bubba Derby?

Yea, Wood was projected to go in the first round and maybe even to us. But we took Sims instead and thankfully Wood was still around our next pick so we got both. I liked both those picks a lot then and still do despite others here losing faith in Sims.

I'd be ok with Alonzo Jones with our next pick.

A pitcher who happens to have had Tommy John surgery recently. Neat.

We took a pitcher at pick 75 and I just wanted to say that I think we should have taken a position player.

But A.J. Minter. I think it works. I like it.
    thank you weso1!

Sounds like he projects as a lefty specialist with some potential to be a late inning bullpen guy.

Throws mid 90's with a cutter. Basically he's the next Mariano Rivera.
    thank you weso1!
