I can't believe some people still don't grasp the concept of how MLB teams draft. Never in the last 30 years have the Braves picked based on the "experts" rankings yet it's somehow a big deal this year.

From what I read... I think Soroka is going to be really good. I think the only reason he wasn't ranked higher is because he's Canadian. May have seemed like a reach but may actually be a steal. Minter may have been a steal also. Our pitching depth is about to be immense.

BA and MLB.com confirmed signings with bonuses as of this morning...

    Michael Soroka - $1,974,000
    Austin Riley - $1,600,000
    Lucas Herbert - $1,125,200
    A. J. Minter - $814,300
    Anthony Guardado - $550,000
    Josh Graham - $500,200
    Ryan Clark - $352,100
    Matt Withrow - $263,700
    Patrick Weigel $ 197,500
    Ryan Lawlor - $171,500
    Stephen Moore - $5,000

    Round 11 And Higher

    Grayson Jones - $150,000
    Justin Ellison - $110,000
    Chase Johnson-Mullins -$125,000
    Trey Keegan -
    Brad Keller -
    Trevor Belicek -
    Evan Phillips -
    Sean McLaughlin -
    Jarret Hellinger -
    Kurt Hoekstra -
    Dalton Geekie -
    Jacob Lanning -
    Jonathon Morales -
    Ben Libuda -
    Robbie Nesovic -
    Collin Yelich -

That's $7,407,200 of our $10,684,100 (69.3292% of our projected cap), leaving $3,276,900 for everyone not listed above - meaning the organization can pay $434,500 over slot for Allard (if needed) without incurring ANY penalty. Any amount in excess of $100,000 given to players selected after Round 10 counts the overage amount against that cap. For example, Grayson Jones, Justin Ellison, and Chase Johnson-Mullins accounted for $85,000 of that figure.

I saw someone mention that, but haven't seen it confirmed anywhere yet.

He does show up on BA's list as signed now though - the MLB.com list only shows players taken in the first 10 rounds.

    Allard "committed".

Feel pretty good about signing Taylor; remember, the Gators were only eliminated from the CWS yesterday, so serious talks are just starting. Don't hold your beath about any of the others, unless the Braves opt to target one with every resource.

I'm beginning to wonder a bit about what might be holding up a potential Allard announcement personally.

Brian Bridges told Paul Byrd during the game broadcast on draft night that they expected to be able to work all the details out within a week or so. Allard tweeted about how excited he was and how he was ready to get started that night. Then we heard that they were waiting until after graduation for Kolby and Lucas Herbert to fly to Atlanta to take their physicals and fill out paperwork. Then we get the reports that Herbert's "done", but not a peep about Kolby.

The Commissioner's Office has ALWAYS been slow about announcing over-slot bonuses in the past, but I can't fathom that it was going to take a huge amount over-slot to get a deal done given his supposed excitement - not only about being picked by Atlanta, but also to keep playing with Herbert - and particularly not so much so that the Braves would ultimately be penalized for exceeding their bonus cap. We had room to go as far as 15+% over slot to sign Allard and STILL not exceed our overall pool.

The Indians went 5% over-slot to sign Brady Aiken, and that signing was announced some time ago. Mike Nikorak signed for well above-slot and his signing has been announced by the Rockies. There have been a couple other above-slot deals announced for other players taken in the First Round.

I'm sure there's a simple explanation about everything, but I always get a bit edgy when everything appeared to be simple on draft night and then we don't hear a whisper from either side for 16 days personally.

Gator fans and observers all believe Lewis is gone. Not even a question- sidewinding righty relievers with good-but-not-great stuff are well-advised to grab the money when it's available.

Braves signed Gilbert Suarez (18) I'm stunned that they actually signed him!

Hate seeing Justin Black gone after struggling... I had really high hopes for him when we drafted him.

Joe Benson gone after there was quite a bit of talk about him making the 25 man roster early in spring training.

Yea, Joe Benson is a good athlete, love his arm but I found he often chased too many bad pitches at the plate. He is very aggressive on the bases but is rather stupid about it. He does stuff like we saw Joey T do not long ago rather regularly. And half the time it doesn't work out well. I also didn't think he was good in CF as far as range, but his arm played well everywhere.

To sum it up, Joe just didn't show enough at the plate, bad baserunner, and OK defense with a great arm. That about sums up what I saw of him in AAA this year. Plus too many other options showing a lot better than him too.
