Fangraphs - A Summer Without Sellers

    http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/a-sum...thout-sellers/

I mention this because I still don't want to be a buyer in the least.
The potential for trading a major league player for a big haul is huge right now.
They mention Hamels in the article, and the Phils will definitely benefit from having him to deal at the deadline. Not many teams will be trading away current contributors.

Anyway, this could benefit us. However, do we have anyone we really want to trade?
I could see us trading a major league starter, but I'm not necessarily FOR it (unless it's Perez). If we were to trade one of them, though, we may get a ton. A good time to try and sell high.
    Who's tradeable right now?

Anyone is available for the right price. Given how dominant Shelby MIller has been over peripherals, I would certainly listen to offers on him.

Mind you I'm not saying trade him for the best package. But if someone blows us away with an offer (say Cubs offer Russell and Soler for example, dont 'see it happening, just listing an example) we can't say no because Miller has been doing well. We need to be smart. Make smart moves that make us better long term.

I'm with it. I'm not 100% against dealing Shelby if someone gives us a crazy offer. That's the kind of stuff I'm getting at here.

I'd definitely trade all of them, but I'm not sure anyone will really want them.
I guess I was thinking of bigger fish to trade that a team believes will put them over the top.

I could see some teams thinking Grilli, Uribe, or Kelly Johnson might be a move at the margins that put them "over the top," but they're indeed not "bigger fish."

Maybin perhaps? He's certainly proving to have value, which nobody expected.

If we are talking about starters, then the only proven ones really attractive to a contender would be Teheran, Wood and Miller. Teheran's recent struggles would mean they are selling low on him, so that wouldn't be good value. It seems like Woods has been underrated his entire career, and probably still is, so he also wouldn't bring back the value he should.

Miller is the guy that might be the best idea to sell high on. He was a top notch prospect, and now everyone thinks he has "figured it out". If some team like the Cubs or Astros make an offer that blows the Braves away, I would consider it. The offer would have to include one young all star type position player, and another young prospect that profiles to be a MLB regular.

As far as position players go, I still think now is the time to sell high on Maybin if the trade value develops. I realize most people here think that means trade him just to trade him, so I won't bother explaining it again.

With maybin the question is whether this is a hot streak, or he and Seitzer have figured it out. If he has figured it out, I think he is the guy we are trying to trade for in the rebuild, so you keep him. If you are convinced this is just a hot streak, you sell high.

I really like what he brings to the team. Unless you get blown away, I think you keep him.

Supply and demand would dictate that if there are less sellers that prices go up so maybe this is a good time to sell.

The players who would be trade bait aren't going to net us anything in return. Grilli, Johnson times two, AJP, and Uribe aren't getting us major league pieces. This team needs talent that is ready to play at this level. Not some 20 year old kid coming off surgery.

Disagree. In trades, this organization needs a mix of incoming players that should be ready to be decent, or even good, in a year or two and incoming players that might be good, even very good, in three to five years.

If this whole ballyhooed rebuild is about running with a deeper organization, then depth is what they should aggressively pursue at every possible juncture. That means squeezing whatever longer-term assets one can out of short-term veterans like those you mention, even if they look low-ceiling or long-shot.

I’m really surprised to be saying this, but I hope not. I’m starting to get a little excited about seeing him and Smith in the outfield together.

I think you kind of have to assume that a contending team has a major injury or something, and has to make a move out of desperation. Otherwise, why bother?

As a general rule we should only trade with the dumb and desperate. The d&d rule.

We could probably make something work with SD with Peraza.

I'd look at Toronto and see if they'd be interested in Julio or Shelby

We need to stop listing AJ and Gomes as trade pieces. They have as much shot of getting dealt as Quentin did

Still wouldnt trade Maybin, no lock they get anyone great to replace him.

    AJ, Uribe, CJ maybe.

Perhaps JJ/Grilli since teams are always in need of pen help.

Maybe one of the starters for a legit bat but i dont know who would offer something like that.
