Struggling minor league starters probably means they are working on their weaknesses. Right?

No. He's been hurt a bit this year and for much of his introduction to pro ball. He had a back injury last year and can't seem to stay healthy. Shame since he has a power arm (95 FB), but hasn't pitched enough to get a feel for what he's doing.

If you are going to tear something that's the thing to tear in the knee.

Too bad though. Hit a homerun in his debut.

Meniscus is actually good news and should recover pretty quickly, even being a catcher.

Folty pitched better tonight. I keep thinking Hursh should go to bullpen but I hope he succeeds as a starter.

It's good to see Ruiz have a good game tonight, he had showed some improvement at the plate. But was still only hitting .226 in his last 10 games coming into today. Speaking of improving at the plate, catcher Jose Briceno came into tonight hitting .352 in his last ten games for Carolina after a really bad start. He was still hitting under .200 coming into tonight even with that hot streak. Tonight he had another very good game going 2-3 with a BB and run scored. That finally got his average over .200 at .203 currently. He's not as big a named prospect as Ruiz but given our issues at catcher and his overall potential he's another to keep an eye on IMO.

Mallex Smith is struggling at AAA. However, I think it's too early to worry about him.

He had a three hit game a few games ago, he also had a bad two week stretch to start High-A last year before getting hot and not looking back. So yea I'd say it's way too early to worry about him.

I wouldn't be concerned over Herbert's knee. He will have a routine meniscectomy in all likelyhood and be down 4-6 weeks.
