SIAP: Tyrell Jenkins Promoted To Gwinnett

Kevin McAlpin ‏@KevinMcAlpin 1h1 hour ago
#Braves have promoted RHP Tyrell Jenkins to Triple-A Gwinnett. Jenkins posted a 3.00 ERA in 16 starts at Double-A Mississippi.

Not sure I like this move. Jenkins has a K-BB% of only 4.6% this year, which is atrocious. I would have liked to see if he could miss some bats before pushing him to AAA.

Jenkins is a good trade chip imo. He's not a staple in the rotation here.

He's no less viable than Folty.

They've been very aggressive with Jenkins this season. I thought he'd start the year in Carolina and finish in AA if he pitched well enough. Looks like I'm a step behind. Like what was said above, his K/BB hasn't been sterling, but I don't know what he's working on and we'll just have to see how he does in Gwinnett. They obviously love his arm.

I've watched both a lot and I like Jenkins better as long as he can stay healthy.

I can see why they like him a lot, not sure I'd promote him to AAA this fast personally but I like him too.

His K rate and BB have been putrid. 5.7 K/9 isnt good for the minors and 4.0 BB/9 is horrible. It's not a confidence booster. If it continues we better ship him off on his talent or ERA.

He may be overrated by the Braves that are very high on him. But what makes you think his trade value is all that high? Further, I'd argue that Folty is a lot more overrated and he probably still has more trade value too. So I'd sell high on him instead.

But we don't know what he's been working on. It's obvious he has a big arm.

True, but I worry that Jenkins won't listen to coaches and will just run off and do his own thing.

That is true, but he's always had a low K and high walk for a power arm. I'm concerned his mechanics may not be repeatable. Note. I haven't seen him pitch, just using stats.

That's funny. Do you think it's possible that a pitcher can make it to AAA with unrepeatable mechanics?
