    Home Run Derby

I don't know about yall but I really enjoyed the new format. It brought a lot more excitement to the event in my opinion. What did you guys think about the format and Todd Frazier's performance?

I liked the format. Made it a lot more exciting. I do think it worked out particularly well tonight because the first hitters all hit a decent amount of homeruns. And obviously the finale was a lot of fun. Waiting for the ball to land with a few seconds left on the clock to see if the pitcher could throw the hitter another pitch added some suspense I liked.

Yeah, the "race against the clock" format was awesome. Really liked it and, given how popular it appeared to be, I'm guessing they'll stick with it. It also helped that the hometown player did the uthinkable twice by hitting 14 HRs in round one to beat Fielder's 13 in the final seconds, and hit 15 HRs in the finals to beat Pederson's 14.

New commish has been doing good work. I enjoyed it for the first time in years.

If they ever scrap Chris Berman, it would be glorious.

MLB in general has just been more enjoyable this year which is funny because our team isn't very good.

Thought it was the best home run derby in years. Congrats the Frazier for the win. Highly competitive contest that wasn't as drawn out as it used to be.

By the way when was the last time the home town guy won?

I don't even really like Bill Simmons, but an organization that fires him and Olbermann but keeps giving Berman plum assignments (and paying Skip Bayless) has its priorities out of whack.

Ryne Sandberg, 1990. Format was different (AL vs NL) but Sandberg was the overall champ.

How about this for nostalgia: Garret Anderson won the 2003 contest.

I don't either, and I entirely agree. Simmons isn't my cup of tea, but he actually brings something to the table, whereas Berman is a talentless company man whose longevity must have, somewhere along the line, been mistaken for ability. His schtick was old—and no less dumb—10 years ago. I do kinda think he's the guy that ESPN-watchers deserve, though.

Yep. I attended that one as well as the ASG. First year it counted, and dumbass Dusty Baker left Smoltz in the pen.

And Andruw was all set up to win the MVP of that game too.
