Austin Riley and Juan Yepez continue to hit well. Riley was 1 for 2 with 2 BB in game 1. He scored 2 runs as well. Yepez was 2 for 4 with an RBI.

Very encouraging that Riley started off so hot. He could be that big power bat down the road in 4 years that everyone wants.

Both Riley and Yepez have walk rates over 10%. Nice to see. Along with Davidson, that's a trio of potential power hitters with good patience.

Isranel Wilson with a double and home run in game 1. He's starting to come on after a slow start. Another 17 year old who is skipping the DSL.

Alejandro Salazar may be a guy we need to keep our eyes on. 1 for 2 with a HR in game 2 today. He's hitting .297 on the year.

Bradley Keller is also hitting .286 after going 2 for 3 today.

This is the most talented group of hitters we've had in the GCL that I can remember. It is nice that they are all 17 or 18--Riley, Yepez, Herbert, Salazar, Acuna, Keller, Wilson. Probably none of them will be rated as high as some of our uber prospects over the years, but the overall number of good hitting prospects at that level is impressive.

I remember Chipper, Javy, Klesko and Nieves playing together on some teams, but I don't believe they were together in the GCL.

Our yield from the international market has been skewed toward hitters in recent years. I think that is one of the reasons why there was so much emphasis on pitching in the draft. That plus the fact that we didn't have enough pitching prospects at the lower levels of the farm system.

Hard to believe that Chipper Jones had a .592 OPS in 164 plate appearances in the GCL.

Just looking back at the numbers, Andruw Jones was a freaking MONSTER as a 18 and 19 year old minor league player. In 982 at bats as an 18 and 19 year old player, Andruw hit 59 home runs, 68 doubles, and 10 triples. He put up a 1.214 OPS as a 19 year old AAA player. UNREAL!!

The Braves have not had a prospect like him since then, IMO.

The greatest defensive cf ever and he had tremendous power... We may not have another prospect like him again.

Jason Heyward wasn't as good, but he was definitely a historically good prospect. He had some unbelievable years in the minor leagues.

His age 17 season was nothing to sneeze at.

I always felt Druw went through the minors too quickly.

Another guy who was a highly rated prospect and got as high as #9 in all of baseball on Baseball America's top 100 is Andy Marte. His tragic problem was a hole in his swing that he could never correct, and it killed him from a contact standpoint.

No one has had a hitting prospect the caliber of Andruw since. King Felix would be the pitching equivalent. I believe BA named Andrus their all time prospect #1 prospect.
