So who exactly are we gonna have in 2017?

Even if 25% of the pitchers hit we are in good shape there, but what about the lineup 2 years from now?

I assume Freeman, Simmons and Peterson will be around, but who fits in around them?

The FA list is sparse other than guys who we traded away. I'm struggling to see a contender put together.

Hard to even say right now, they will try to trade for a hitter i presume with the pitching they have and sign someone although the FA OF market is weak.

I believe we traded for the two pitching prospects to be able to have more depth to trade some Arms for a bat or two in the offseason.wouldnt be surprised for one of the two to be included in a deal after the season imo

I think people are overestimating what kind of major league pitching surplus we will have by 2017. I like all of Wood, Teheran, Miller, Perez, Folty, Wisler and Banuelos. But with the usual attrition that is not a lot of starting pitching.

Maybe one or two of the guys in the upper minors (Jenkins, Sims, Janas) develops. That could potentially put us in a position to trade a starting pitcher.

Maybe we sign a free agent starting pitcher or two. That would also allow us to trade a starting pitcher.

I have to agree with you. Although don't rule out Minor (I know he's a Non-tender candidate) and Fried (and Winkler as well).

Max Fried has yet to pitch above low A. Don't think he'll be a factor at the major league level in 2017.

I know it's unlikely, but I really think Justin Upton makes perfect sense for this team. We've got money to spend, need power in LF/3B, and we need that power to be right-handed. Stick him and Freddie hitting 3/4 in some order when we open the new stadium, and I think things look a lot better.

If he can make it to AA next year then start 2017 in AAA there's a chance he could be ready at some point in 2017

I'm assuming 2017 goal of being a legit contender is real. If so there is no way we do that with in house options.

So I'd guess we try our best to trade away and stash in minors to get ourselves a protected pick.
Then we trade one of Tehran, Wood, Miller to get a big time bat at LF, 3B, or C
then we sign a FA at what's left of LF, 3B, C after the trade
Then we sign one of the big time SP on the market

    But my version...
    Sign One of Price, Zimmerman
    sign Cespedes for LF
Trade for Lucroy......Peraza, CB, and a pitcher (not Wood/Miller/Tehran)
Sign Uribe back and pray he holds up, hope that we get lucky with Ruiz actually playing well

    Markakis
    Cespedes
    FF
    Lucroy
    Uribe
    Maybin
    Peterson
    Simmons

    Price/Zimmerman
    Tehran
    Wood
    Miller
    Wisler/Man Ban

We'll make some trades. Not hard to figure out some trades if you use your imagination. Clearly we have a middle infielder to move that could net us a nice piece. We have some pitchers we could move as well.
    thank you weso1!

Braves acquired RHP John Gant and RHP Robert Whalen from the Mets for INF Juan Uribe, INF/OF Kelly Johnson and cash considerations.
Gant was the team's 21st round selection from the 2011 draft and has climbed his way up the prospect rankings. The 22-year-old right-hander has compiled a 3.52 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 91/36 K/BB ratio over 99 2/3 innings between High-A St. Lucie and Double-A Binghampton this season. He has the potential to develop into a top of the rotation starter.

Whalen, a 21-year-old right-hander, was the Mets 11th round selection from the 2012 draft. He has spent the entire 2015 season at High-A St. Lucie where he has posted a 3.36 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 61/34 K/BB ratio over 83 innings. He projects as a back of the rotation starter.
