The Braves - Dodgers deal still might get done tonight. Now, that might mean in the middle of the night, but it still might get done.
The middle of the night seems like the most appropriate time to give the Dodgers Wood.

I'm curious as to what the general industry consensus is on Alex Wood. From my experience as a Braves fan and looking at his peripherals he looks like a legitimate #2.

I think Wood makes a ton of sense for a team like the Dodgers. He is the perfect starter to add to that team and they are in the middle of their window, so they are likely to receive the full benefit of what should be his prime, Even if there is concern about his delivery.

Even if they lose Greinke to FA, they still have Wood who they can ride in the #2 spot.

Look, You nor I know what the Phillys STARTED asking for Hammels. If they had asked for Judge or Severino straight up the Yankees would have been fools not to do that. If they asked for Judge and Severino plus, which is more likely, then I can see why the Yanks might turn that down.

Hammels is a TRUE ace not some guy who gets called an ace simply because he's the best starter on a weak staff. He's also LH and signed for a reasonable number for his type of capability in this day and time.

Every team in ML baseball declares players as "untouchable" but my belief is that there are less than five players in the Majors or minors total who would not be moved under ANY circumstances.

Exactly. Plus they can try Peraza out at SS if they want to give Seager some more time to season.

    Really nice trade for them.

I would say that with Wood seemingly headed for the door that makes it much more likely that the Braves go hard after Price.

I'm not crazy about this trade, but I think a lot of people who are upset about it will be pleasantly surprised by Olivera. I'm assuming the Dodgers are paying all of the bonus, which makes his contract very attractive. There are health issues and of course questions about how he will age. But whatever the age, we do have him at potentially very attractive salaries for the next five or six years.

My main issue with the trade is giving up Peraza. Given he is 21, I think his upside is a bit higher than most people seem to think, including apparently the front office.

What kind of bat (and contract) do you think Alex Wood could have gotten if traded in the offseason?
I'll put it this way. Alex Wood is a young, already high level starter in MLB. They should have gotten no less than Cory Seager in this deal.

Five or six years when 34 is the new 40 doesn't sound all that great.

THis is an amazing deal for them. THey get a set up guy, a lefty reliever, a potential long term starting SS, and a legit starter to plug in behind Kershaw/Greinke. THey essentially just bought those guys for cash.

Peraza is the part of the deal that I think we'll end up regretting.

Hart must be leaning back in the executive chair right now with his head tilted back and taking a big sigh, with Suspenders standing over him unbuttoning his top two buttons and giving him a little chest massage telling him to relax it's gonna be ok you did good.
