    Wood 8.23 k/9, 2.64 bb/9, 0.66 hr/9, 3.10 ERA, 3.17 FIP, 3.42 xFIP, 6.4 WAR

This year Miller has taken a step forward... Wood a step back. Funny hearing you use ERA as your main point when you laugh at anyone else using it.

Wood is at worst a #2. I've always been interested in trading him though.

You would have a point if his FIP wasn't even better, which projects him nicely in the future.

Same... for an impact prospect or established bat

I would say .280 with 20 HR is reasonable as an upside for Olivera. I would be shocked if anyone suggested he could reasonably give you more than that.

I think that's exactly the type of hitter the Braves think they are getting, plus a .350+ OBP...all for about $5M per year at a position of dire need. If Olivera slashes anywhere close to .280/.350/.450 with average defense at 3B, then I think this trade is just fine. The Braves obviously think that's the kind of hitter he is. I have no idea what he will produce offensively, but he was super hyped when he was a FA, most likely for good reason.

Then they paid for his upside without accounting for his risks...so a bad deal.

And he's not going to put up an OBP of .350+, certainly not if he hits .280.

so his "step back" is one of the top 20 pitchers in the national league? Is Teheran a 5 then since he took a step back this year?

That's true, but it does give us a good player at a position of need for a very team friendly contract. So we don't need a 3B now and we still will have plenty of money to spend to improve the roster.
    thank you weso1!

They are not going to set the money on fire or sheepishly hand a stuffed envelope to Liberty execs.
Where do you calculate $35 million? Wood Peraza Jj Avilan don't combine to make $35 million

Teheran is definitely not a TOR starter right now, and Alex Wood is not a top 20 pitcher this year. Of course, you think Strasburg is an ace so I can't argue with you.

If Olivera is healthy, that will hopefully give us a 3B, yes. And his contract would them be fine.

But there's a little ways to go before we can cross that off the needs list.

It's also important to note that Olivera is not a normal prospect with regards to service time. It's not like we get to start his clock when he comes up. His clock is already started...

He's using Olivera's signing bonus. In reality, we save a little on Avilan ($1 million?) and nothing on Wood for 2016. So it's really just the $4.5 million we saved on Arroyo.
