    2016 Payroll

After the Olivera trade, here is what I have for 2016. Holes to be filled in LF and C, as well as a couple bench pieces and some BP slots. Assuming a payroll around $100M next year (the $112M mark was a one time thing for Santana), that leaves the team with about $37M to spend. Certainly enough to sign an impact bat for LF and add to other parts of the roster. Obviously getting rid of CJ would give the team closer to $45M to spend.

    Catcher $0.0
    Freeman $12.0
    Peterson $0.5
    Olivera $4.0
    Simmons $6.0
    Markakis $10.5
    Maybin $8.0
    LF $0.0

    CJ $7.5
    Gomes $3.0
    Toscano $1.0
    Bench4 $0.0
    Bench5 $0.0

    Wisler $0.5
    Teheran $3.3
    Perez $0.5
    Miller $0.5
    Folty $0.5

    Grilli $3.5
    Viz $0.5
    Shae $0.5
    Paco $0.5
    BP5 $0.0
    BP6 $0.0
    BP7 $0.0

    Total $62.8

There's enough for one big piece (ace or a bat like Cespedes or Wieters), and then enough cash to fill out other holes.

I wish we were looking at a better FA class.

The chances of our signing an eminence grise for the starting rotation have grown now that Wood is gone.

For pitchers it is pretty good.

Fortunately it's loaded with starting pitchers, with Wood gone, Atl should be in the market for one.

Braves have alot of internal pieces they could plug in the bullpen.

Viz, Withrow, Shae, McKirahan, Paco, Winkler, eventually Grilli.

We will pick up one or two grizzled vets to complement this group.

What would yall think of Alex Gordon if he hit FA?

Only problem is he'll be 32 but all-world defender and can hit.

    FA market is really meh.

I wouldnt be against Cespedes but doesnt seem someone Hart may go for.

I think Gordon, a TOR starter, and a competent catcher is very doable and would be a great offseason. Especially if the Braves pick is protected.

Braves likely have payroll flex to $120MM if need be, whether or not they begin to add for 2016 is another story. The Olivera addition would seem to indicate that they are ready to start putting the pieces together, but who knows.

I think we'll spend more taking on contracts in trades but if we had to go the FA route I'd want Price, zobrist, and Jaso.

I don't see where we'll outbid anyone for the big starting arms.

Hart hates impact free agents. He will bargain hunt for the rest of his days in Atlanta. Let's hope it's not too much longer.

Cueto is a bit of a reach. But he might work for us. Plus no compensation pick attached.

    Dump Markakis

Package Teheran, Peterson, and maybe another good prospect for a legit OF or 3B bat

Sign one of the stud pitchers

    Move Olivera to 2b

    Sign Heyward

    Get ready for battle

Not too big on Heyward. Don't get me wrong love the guy to death but I don't see him as the piece that would push us over the top. And for what he is going to be getting on the market....forget about it

What this team REALLY needs which a lot of people don't mention is a true lead off hitter. Something we really haven't had since furcal. Not saying I know exactly who that player we need to get is but a billy Hamilton would be sweet. See if seitzer can get him to hit for a decent average or learn to take walks. Dude has 47 steals this year and is hitting .237....yikes

    Hamilton cf
    Maybin. Lf
    Freeman 1b
    Olivera 3b
    Markakis. Rf
    Peterson 2b
    Simmons ss
    Bethancourt c

Billy Hamilton may be the worst hitter in the league
