What else do you call drafting pass catchers in the top 10 back to back on a team with a coach who only wants to run the ball?

That doesn't even take into account the Falcons utter lack of a QB or pass rusher. They took luxuries when cornerstone spots were glaring holes. Still are glaring holes.

I actually worry Smith will waste Bijan Robinson. He'll take advantage of his legs but Robinson is so much more than that. Smith should be like a kid with a toy with Robinson.

We actually don’t know if Ridder is the answer or not. But I know you probably actually didn’t really watch him play against a good Green Bay defense. Or you just dwelled on his rough drives. Yes he has struggled at times… I mean he’s started what… 6 whole games and has won 4 of them? Man… so weird a QB struggles at times 6 starts into his career… lmao. He’s made all the NFL throws and is mobile… not to mention he’s a great leader. The Falcons would be worse off with Mac Jones, Fields, or Lance… they don’t have a star pass rusher but now a number of solid ones. The D has been really solid and they have gotten quite a bit of pressure. Your preconceived bias is showing through.

Ridder's arm strength and athleticism have never been in doubt. They were his strengths coming into the draft yet he still was graded by most teams as a backup.

Ridder has always had too many wild throws. Dude should easily have 5 or 6 NFL picks by this point and it's a miracle he only has one. He could have had 3 on Sunday if the Packers could catch. Combine that with less a than elite ability to process the field and you have some big obstacles for him.

The Steelers may have, no pun intended, gotten a steal with George Pickens. He was the 11th WR off the board in 2022 but is looking like a potential number 1 receiver.

NFLPA is going to blame turf, I blame it on starters not playing in the preseason. ALl those preseason injuries are compounding into the regular season.

Yes, he certainly had a couple ill advised throws against the Packers. He needs to learn to not try and do too much and I'm sure this will be a great learning experience for him. Last I checked, that's a pretty normal thing for young QB's. Dude has played SIX games (again... won 4 of them). Trevor Lawrence looked bad for his first 13+ games... most young QB's look bad for their first several games... and let's not forget, the Falcons pass protection has been pretty awful. They do well blocking for the run, but they have been bad at pass protecting so it's hard to put all of the bad throws on him. Not to mention, he really turned it on and improved immensely as the game went on. He looked great in the 4th quarter. Just weird you completely close the book on a dude with obvious talent and intangibles after 6 games... lol. You just like to crap on the Falcons though so it's par for the course.

Again... the Falcons would be worse off with Lance, Zach Wilson, Fields, Pickett, Watson or literally anyone else who they could have legitimately have gotten instead of him (way too early to judge the 2023 rookie QBs)... Ridder looks better than all of them... he's been better than Carr this year too. But keep on with your narrative...

    2023 stats thus far:

    Pickett: 60.5% rate, 454 yards, 2 TD, 3 INT, 69.7 passer rating
    Fields: 60.6%, 427, 2, 3, 70.7
    Carr: 63.8%, 533, 1, 2, 80.2
    Wilson: 54.2%, 310, 2, 4, 53.3
    Watson: 55.1%, 389, 2, 2, 69.1
    Jones: 68.8%, 547, 4, 2, 88.3

    Ridder: 68%, 352, 2, 1, 93.1

Most metrics say he's right in the middle of the pack of all QBs thus far... total QBR he's ranked 14 which is right in line with Herbert, Garoppolo, Lamar, Mac Jones, and Josh Allen
    EPA he's ranked 17...

Imagine looking at those numbers for a QB who's play SIX games (and won 4 of them) and thinking he can't play. Looks to me he can be a damn good game manager if he keeps progressing.

Ridder will get his chance. He's got no competition this year with Falcons and he's got so many weapons that he'll have no excuse if he doesn't succeed. But if he shows he's best suited for a backup roll, the Falcons are going to be in a very difficult spot. Wasting years of Robinson, Pitts, and London's rookie deals trying to figure out QB will be a problem for this front office.

Ridder will definitely need to shake the tendency of making wild and/or bonehead throws. DB's wont drop balls forever.

Yup... real strange that a QB who's played 6 games has made a handful of bad throws

Making frequent bad throws was one of the big knocks on him in college so that's going to be something that's watched.

Ridder isn't a franchise QB. He also isn't completely terrible. Sort of good enough to win you some games, but not really good enough to get you far in the playoffs without a dominant defense.

Oddly enough, he reminds me a lot of Marcus Mariota, who you guys jettisoned mid-season last year.

Because Mariota was horrible for Atlanta last year. RIdder at least has the upside of being young and uncertain. Mariota you know will be quite mediocre to bad.

Ridder was projected as a backup QB going into the draft. I think he could have a long career as a backup. Kind of like Matt Schaub for a good portion of his career.

By nearly every QB metric, Mariota was at the bottom of the league statistically... this year so far Ridder is firmly in the middle of the pack after playing only 6 games in his career. Give me a break. Also... there's a great article in the Athletic today talking about how the Falcons are the best defense no one is talking about right now. They've done an amazing job rebuilding the defense.
