When Calais Campbell visited the Falcons this past offseason one of his big questions was about the Falcons QB situation. Arthur Smith and Terry Fontenot apparently swore to him that Ridder was the guy, he was the next Falcons franchise QB. Campbell said he looked into their eyes and Smith and Fontenot were 100% convinced Ridder was the guy, that they were staking their careers on it.
Four games in we're already seeing Smith hedging a bit. He said yesterday there's no plans for a QB change but that everythings on the table if they keep losing.
Going all in on Ridder might end up costing Smith and Fontenot their jobs. They bet heavy on a guy who hasn't looked remotely like an NFL QB.
At least through next season. Dead Cap for 2024 is 69 Mill vs a cap hit of 47 mil.
Last year's extremely lucky season cost the giants a chunk of healthy window time.

Every time I have seen Lamar in a big game (playoffs) the defense dares him to throw the ball and places multiple 'spy' schemes in the middle of the field.
Again - You'll have some 12-13 win seasons with him no doubt but you are not winning a super bowl with a QB that can't stand in the pocket and throw the ball well.

Some of the talking heads think the Falcons should trade for Justin Fields. The Bears are going nowhere and will likely have the top pick. No chance they pass on Williams. So they'd have to listen on Fields.
On the Falcons side, Fields makes some sense. The Falcons are a run first, play action offense but Ridder is incapable of pushing the ball down field. Fields definitely can do that. Combine Fields running threat with Robinson and you might actually have something interesting.
Something Fontenot and Smith should check in on. Might be a way to save their jobs for another year.

Lamar was an MVP 4 years ago. And while it was a great year, his TD% was crazy high and he hasn't come close to replicating it. He isn't a great passer whatsoever. He isn't awful either, sort of league average. His running ability it what seta him apart.
Who wouldn't look terrible as QB for the Bears?
And I'm not saying Fields would come in and be an all pro. But he'd be a huge improvement over what the Falcons have. And if there's any situation where he could be successful, Atlanta is it. He'd be in a system suited to his strengths and would have some talented skill position players around him.
I'd take a flier on fields. No higher than a 5th round pick and I'd send them back one of our QBs.

Yeah he's no Mahomes, etc. but he's very good. People have slept on him for too long. If I told you I have a QB with a 65% comp% 6 TD% 2 INT% also rushes for 6 Y/A and scores a rushing TD about every other game THat's pretty great.

Other than that, he's great!
Fields can do two things really, really well. First, he can run. He's always a threat to take off and defenses have to account for that. Second, he can throw a deep ball. He was the most accurate passer in the NFL last year on balls between 31-40 yards and the 4th most accurate on 41+. Where he struggles is on is short to intermediate passing plays. Quickly making reads, going through progressions, and fitting the ball in tight windows is where he struggles.
Fortunately, what he does well are the biggest needs for a QB in Arthur Smith's offense. Smith likes having a QB that's mobile. His offense is run heavy and having a dual threat QB gives him more options in the run game. Smith also likes to rely on play action to keep defenses honest. Again, that's a strength of Fields.
Fields will probably never develop into a complete QB at this point. But he's way better than Ridder and actually brings a couple tools that play well in Smith's offense. I'd prefer the Falcons fire Smith and get a competent head coach but if we're stuck with him, it would at least be more fun to watch Fields.
Justin fields led the Bears to the first overall pick last year, and is on his way to leading them to the first overall pick this year.

The Bears problems go way beyond QB. They make the Falcons look like a model franchise.
A "good" QB should never be leading a team to #1 overall... let alone consecutive years. If the Falcons trade for Fields, they would set their re-start back 2 more years

I think one year is fine - Jags were awful in Lawrences first year.
But after that a good QB wins more than 5-6 games.
