I guess they don't believe the run game can get going enough for them to win. I don't know why, I feel they're capable of having nice long drives. But also, they couldn't put the ball in the end zone tonight. They did have opportunities and ended up kicking 3 field goals. Is that execution, play calling? I really don't like some of the things they do in the run game, it does seem like it gets pushed back. But we've run the ball very successfully for weeks and just stop doing it. And have lost games because of it. And somehow Garrett won't get canned for that.

Some very late night Cowboys thoughts now that I've cooled off a bit:

*I've resigned myself to Jason Garrett being back in 2014. Next season though, playoffs or be gone. He's going to have the hottest seat of any coach in the NFL.

*Monte Kiffin has to be gone. While the defense did show up against the Eagles, for the most part this season, was awful. Terrible scheme all season.

*DeMarcus Ware sounded like after the game he was willing to take a pay cut. Hope he does. He didn't play this year to the rate his contract would justify paying him. It could help against the salary cap if he would take a cut.

*By the sounds after the game, I'm not counting on Jason Hatcher returning. He is looking to get paid and I don't think the Cowboys can afford to give him the contract he wants.

*Miles Austin's time in Dallas should be done. He's getting up there in years and was basically replaced as the #2 receiver by Terrance Williams and even Cole Beasley passed him.

*There were times he drove me crazy, but Dez Bryant continues to show he can be a top notch receiver. Pro Bowl selection showed that. Hopefully he can keep his head on straight. He does that, there is no limit to his ability.

*Offensive line actually got better as the season went along. Got to give them their due on that

*Cannot screw up the draft this year. Need to address DT, S, DE, OG, and OLB to be sure. The Cowboys have to hit each pick right.

*I was surprised to see Kyle Orton had another year on his deal (thought he was a FA after this season). He showed me that he can be relied on if he would be needed next season. Yeah he had two picks, but only one you can say was his fault.

*As much as I like and stand behind Tony Romo as the Cowboys QB, the time is just about now to start thinking about life after him. Jones said a high draft pick will not be used on a QB. I agree with not using one in the first round, but it has to be addressed soon. Romo will be 34 at the start of next season, the exact age Troy Aikman was forced to retire. A lot of people thought it was concussions that forced Aikman to retire, but it was back injuries. Tony Romo coming off a significant back injury at 34 is a bit of a scary proposition. If A.J. McCarron, Zach Mettenberger, or someone like that is available in the second round, I'd think about it.

Yeah, definitely need to start getting some pressure ont he QB. That is what has been missing. Ultimately though, I think the team rises to the occasion and I expect a win next week. Not going to be easy though because the Pack are damn good.

Damn, I didn't even realize Romo was that old. Looking at his numbers, there has been a slight decline the past couple years.

I agree that they have to address the QB position real soon. Metterberger would make sense in the 2nd.

Shanny gone. Not entirely pleased with it, but his loyalties with Haslett and hiring Burns were awful decisions.

Kyle is going to be a great offensive coordinator though. Really curious to see where he lands.

This sucks for Shanny but the writing was on the wall since the start of the season. He just couldn't get on the same page with RG3.

If there was a problem, it was minor in comparison to the affect of Haslett and Burns. The defense was just atroucious. And STs were the worst in history. Heck, McCarthy and Rodgers don't see eye to eye and that team just keeps plugging along.

In Shannys defense they lost 18 million in cap space in each of the last 2 years and that was a huge detriment. 18 mil goes a long way in keeping some young players and adding a couple starters. Combining that with an injured QB and Shanny really did have a lot going against him. But, that still doesn't excuse the utter **** they put on the defensive side of the ball due to his hire of Haslett.

Why does it suck for him? He can o to Houston and have arguably the best defensive player in the NFL, one of the better running attacks in the NFL and the number 1 pick. He can address any need. Personally if I was him I'd either go Bridgewater/Hurst (or similar OL) or you go BPA and take CLowney/Boyd

The first is the higher potential draft cause if Bridgewater works out you have a very good QB and the odds of Bridgewater working out are much higher than Boyd or most other QBs in the class. Which leads us to part 2 the higher floor. I have almost no doubt in my mind that CLowney will at worst be an average NFL DE. At best he's a star.

At worst Clowney is a 3rd down passing rushing specialist. It's remains to be seen if he can handle being an everyday DE. Plus, there are question marks about his desire after he put up a stinker his senior year and didn't play when he was healthy enough to play.

Sounds like O'Brien is going to Houston, but I do think that would be a good fit for Shanny. They were running a similar system as Kubiak used to be O-coordinator for Shanny.

Desire may be a question but raw freak ability isn't. Clowney may be the Randy MOss of DEs, but That's still pretty damned good. I hope other NFL teams think they way you do and he falls to the Falcons.

Clowney is just another classic high risk/high reward guy. He certainly could turn out great or he could turn out like other "can't miss athletic guys" like Gaines Adams, Courtney Brown, Steve Emtman, etc.

Look on the bright side, at least the Redskins don't have to worry about drafting the possible bust since they gave up the 2nd pick to the Rams.

Yeah, good point. Clowney wouldn't have even been an option though.

Who did they lose that would have made a difference? I am asking because I honestly don't know.

Mario Williams did as well. Point being, he isn't\won't be the only one.

I think Spurrier is glad to see him go.
