Colin Kaepernick said he wants there to be a "balance" between his upcoming contract and the 49ers' ability to sign free agents.
It doesn't sound like Kaepernick is going to try to squeeze every dollar out of the 49ers in negotiations. "You want to be paid fairly for what you feel like you're doing in comparison to your peers," he said. "But at the same time, you have to realize, if we want to get Anquan Boldin back, if we want Donte Whitner to come back, we're going to have to make moves to get them back." In addition to those two unrestricted free agents, plenty of other core 49ers are eligible for extensions. Michael Crabtree, Aldon Smith and Mike Iupati will each be seeking monster paydays.
Smart move, but how much of a paycut?
What else would he say? "I want the most money they will give me" How well is that going to go over?
Actions speak louder than words.
He's gonna get paid. Brady's "deal" contract still got him paid. And it was way different than Kaepernick's deal would be because Brady was under a healthy contract when he signed his extension and a healthy chunk of his deal was to drastically increase his guaranteed money. His "deal" contract works out to about 15M a season. I don't think Kaepernick would sign for too much less than that. I think he'll make at least 17/per year. He may not quite wind up at Ryan/Flacco/Peyton levels if he wants to sign cheaper but the 3M or so wouldn't make a massive impact. If he signs for like 10M a year, then good for him, he cares about winning and the Niners lucked out but he's also an idiot financially.

What's up with Kaepernick popping off at the mouth about the Seahawks nearly 2 weeks since the game?
I love how Sherman is scared of the Niners but didn't Kaepernick only throw on him like 3 times? Meaning obviously he did a pretty good job huh?

I think its actually a brilliant financial move and I don't understand why more QB's dont' do it. If Kaep is lucky enough to win a SB he will get so many endorsements over the course of his life that he will make that money back in time. If he wins a couple then he is made in the shade.

Nothing wrong with what Kap said.
Brady signed a cheaper deal but all of it is guaranteed.
The cap hit the next 3 years for him is 13, 14, 13.
Not as much as some of the top QB's but still a decent cap hit.
To Kap, i dont know why others wouldnt potentially do it. That extra 6-8 million could be the difference in keeping a key player or 2 and not being able too.
Which might be the key to winning it all or not.
It all depends on the guaranteed money.
