Good gamble. Johnson has some issues. But at worst he should be a force in the slot. No excuses for Kaepernick. Niners now have 3 well above average receivers one of the best TEs in the game, a great OL and a great running game. If he can't put it all together with this at his disposal he may never.

Also kinda dumb from Buffalo but whatever, they're not known for their intelligence.

Put it all together? Kaepernick has been awesome so far in his career. He would just continue that excellence.

You have a different definition of excellence than I.

Then again, I've gotten to watch someone who's not quite elite in Ryan who's proven how to consistently be a great but not amazing QB. Kaepernick right now is in that 8-13 range for QB rangs. Excellence to me would be at least hovering around top 5.

Interesting debate. Suppose you have an expansion draft and you can take any QB, where would you take Kaepernick?

For me over him I'd go Rodgers, Ryan and Luck for sure. And he'd be in that mix with Scam, Wilson, RG3, and Stafford. Though if Foles is legit I'd take him over Kaepernick for sure, just don't know if Kelly will be able to get away with what he got away with last year and how Foles will react to making tough throws.

I'm not as big on the Wilson train as most but kid wins. If i had to make a hard list I'd probably go

    1. Rodgers
    2. Luck
    3. Ryan
    4. Wilson
    5. Kaeprnick
    6. Scam
    7. RG3

I'm just too concerned about RG3's health. He's too young of a man to have had 2 major knee surgeries.

I think Johnson wasn't very happy with the direction the team was heading in. This is a great trade for us. Johnson can be very good and last season he was off injured. He owns Revis and will be a very good receiver with the 49ers.

Matt Ryan throws too many picks for me to consider him a top QB. He also shows a lack of mobility.

No, you don't have to be a 'running' QB to have mobility, he just seems slow and is under pressure way too much. Sure, part of that falls on the OL, but part is him not being able to get away and also not sensing the pressure.

The only reason that has passing yards are so high is because the Falcons never have a run game so he is forced to constantly throw it. If they were remotely close to a balanced team it would be blatantly obvious how he is not a top 10 QB. Basically, for him, the stats lie.

He is, at most, a fringe top 10 for me... and even saying that is a stretch.

What the hell, are you dumb?

    Here's Ryan's INT's #'s by year.

    08- 11
    09- 14
    10- 9
    11- 12
    12- 14
    13- 17

    Since when is that alot?

    Check your facts.

And Ryan's OL is complete turd****.

Brady, Brees, and Peyton arent mobile, doesnt mean nothing. Ryan isnt a statue but he can move around somewhat.

Ryan is easily top 10, arguably top 5, most likely in the 6-8 range for me.

    Check Mate.

I'm not even a Falcons fan but you could not be anymore wrong.

If this was Giles posting, I'd know it was trolling.

What 10 QBs are better than Ryan?

Ryan's numbers are high because he's a great QB. He threw a ton of picks last year, but he played the whole year without his 2 best WRs both being healthy. Only had maybe 10 total games where Roddy or Julio was healthy. He doesn't have a running game to fall back on either.

Ryan isn't mobile he's more of the Manning/Brady mold of someone who shifts in the pocket to set the pocket.

Ryan isn't perfect, he's not an elite QB, he may at some point take that jump, but he's pretty much the 5th or 6th best QB in the NFL if you factor in all the factors.

Ryan doesn't need to be mobile though. Because he has the ability to quickly go through his progressions and find the open man or throw someone open. He doesn't need 5 seconds in the pocket. If you give it to him watch out but he doesn't need that time.

Luck is not better than Ryan right now. I would take luck long term, but Luck is not better than Ryan.

    Let's compare even last year which in traditional stats have Ryan at 67.4 comp% 4.0 TD% 2.6 INT% 6.9 Y/A Luck was at 60.2 comp% 4.0 TD% 1.6 INT% 6.7 Y/A

Ryan is only worse in INT% Ryan higher comp% and Y/A that's in far and away by traditional stats Ryan's worst season since his second seasno and Luck's best season so far.

Wilson and Kaepernick you cannot compare, they play on tricked out teams who have dominant running games. They are throwing to open men all the time. Rivers was better last year, but had sucked for a long time, he may or may not be better. I cannot believe though that I just read ALex Freaking Smith. That's just so wrong. Alex Smith is the ultimate game manager.

Also in no universe is Cutler better than Stafford. Stafford is way better than Cutler.

They play on better teams? Boo hoo.

Notice who I said I put them in groups; I did not say that is how they align within said groups. Those are comparable players comprising the groups, nothing more.

Also let's compare Ryan to the others. Again using last year when Ryan was the most pressured QB in the NFL playing without his top receiver most of the year and his other top as well not fully healthy all year or really functional til like week 10.

    Ryan 67.4 comp% 6.01 NY/A
    Kaepernick 58.4 comp% 6.52 NY/A
    Wilson 63.1 comp% 6.84 NY/A

Wilson you can argue was better than Ryan, Kaepernick is a maybe.

Again that's with Ryan's worst season since his second year and while he had all those other things.

Neither of those 2 have come even remotely close to having a season like Ryan did last year.

Not bad. I still can't believe the Chiefs traded a 2 for Smith but I'm guessing Chiefs fans won't complain.

It's an obvious win for the 49ers. However Reid and company wanted their quarterback and he performed pretty well for them last season. He fits in that offense and runs it how Reid wants. If Kaepernick doesn't erupt into an elite quarterback you can make a case for Kansas City making a pretty good trade as well.

Thats incredible. Hopefully Tank will explode onto the scene this year. Its like having an extra first round pick.

Stevie Johnson was going to be the 3rd WR sooner rather than later. I imagine that didn't sit well with him with being that he is getting older and would have been a likely candidate to be cut soon with his cap #'s.

Personally, I don't think these guys:
    Wilson
    Kaep
    Smith
    Newton
Are better than Ryan. Also, Dalton, Cutler and Smith over Romo? No chance.
Luck will be better than Ryan this season, if he isn't already.

Just on pure passing I don't think you can say Kaep belongs over Ryan but you have to include the whole package and what Kaep does with his legs changes games in addition to his arm.
